Registering your interest
 +
Whether you want to get actively involved in helping a ride be a success, or just wish to get the occasional email reminder about upcoming rides, please register your interest via the Sign Up box on the Worldwide site. We will usually acknowledge each registration, especially if you have a specific question or can offer to help. It is, however, not a requirement that riders register in this way.

Most rides also have a public Yahoo group to which you can subscribe and then discuss issues with others involved in that town or city. Sign up to Yahoo then, in Groups, search for WNBR and your town or city, and apply to become a member of the group if it exists. If it doesn't, then why not start one!
Please read the following practical information carefully. Please print out a copy for any friends you know are coming on the ride and who do not have access to e-mail. <br/>

Make sure your bike is roadworthy. In particular check: <br/>

- that the brakes work properly <br/>

- the tyres are sufficiently inflated <br/>

- the chain runs freely and the gear changes are smooth <br/>

- there are no obvious loose connections (check especially your handlebars, saddle, cranks, pedals) <br/>

- as far as possible check that your wheels run true (don't wobble from side to side when moving) <br/>

What to bring with you on the Ride: <br/>
+
There are also Facebook Groups with a similar purpose as well as Facebook Events that focus on specific upcoming rides. Organisers may also use Twitter to communicate with followers.
- Obviously your bike (if you have not got a bike, you could hire one) <br/>

- One or more bags to carry your clothes and other bits & pieces. Bags attaching safely to your bike are best as they do not restrict your movement, make your back sweat too much or obscure any slogans you have written there. If you do not have a pannier, saddle, rack or handlebar-bag, use a back-pack that attaches securely to your body and leaves both hands free <br/>

- A basic tool kit specific to your bike including a spare inner tube and/or other means of dealing with a puncture <br/>

- A working pump <br/>

- One or more water-bottles filled with a (non-alcoholic!) drink of your choice <br/>

- Front and rear lights in case it is dark by the time you are getting home <br/>

- Some snacks to keep you going until your next meal <br/>

During the Ride we will have a ride leader and a back marker. Each ride will have either stewards or police supporters who will hold up the traffic at junctions when necessary in order that to keep all the riders together. For everyone's safety, please observe the following advice: <br/>
+
2019 rides
- Do not stray from the Route or the other riders <br/>

- Do not race ahead or overtake the ride leader, especially if you do not know the way

- Try not to drop behind the back marker <br/>

- Be aware of pedestrians <br/>

- On shared use pathways, keep to the side marked as a cycle lane. If no such lane is marked, be prepared to stop if necessary if pedestrians (or their dogs) get in your way <br/>

- Follow the normal traffic rules given in the Highway Code, stopping at red lights etc. unless directed to clear a junction by a steward who will temporarily hold up traffic on your behalf (such a tactic will only be used to keep the group together) <br/>

- Creativity and decoration of your bike and your body is strongly encouraged. If you have any body paints, please bring them along. Leaves and other greenery are also useful for draping or twisting around body. There are lots more ideas on the main WNBR website: <br/>

- Bring bells, whistles, horns etc. to make a pleasant noise <br/>

- If you want to carry banners, flags or flagpoles please ensure these are attached to your bike in a safe way so that they will not get caught up in your wheels, cause difficulty when mounting or dismounting or cause a nuisance to other riders. In particular avoid anything with a sharp point. There is a way of attaching flexible bamboo poles with banners above head height, but unless you have previous experience of this (plus a strong pannier rack, lots of gaffer tape and some ingenuity), it is best not to attempt it <br/>

- If you wear a mask, make sure it does not restrict your vision of the road or the other riders around you <br/>

Being a Volunteer Steward
+
Other ride locations to be confirmed
In order to ensure the smooth running of this year’s London World Naked Bike Ride, we are asking for volunteer stewards to look after the welfare of riders. <br/>
+
Rides which may get support and a date in 2019:
 +
* Newcastle Gateshead
 +
* Scarborough
 +
* Worthing

The purpose of WNBR stewards is to monitor the safety and wellbeing of riders and to provide advice and assistance where necessary. Stewards will be a visible presence amongst riders and will help to ensure that participants are safe, that they don't get lost or separated from the main ride and to provide assistance to those who get left behind or have breakdowns or punctures. <br/>
+
Possible future rides
 +
Other towns that have in the past and/or may in the future have their own rides:
 +
* Bath
 +
* Belfast
 +
* Chesterfield
 +
* Glasgow
 +
* Leeds
 +
* Loughborough (Midlands)
 +
* Norwich
 +
* Nottingham
 +
* Oxford
 +
* Portsmouth
 +
* Sheffield
 +
* Southampton
 +
These rides can be brought into being if organisers step forward and offer to work to make them happen.

Stewards are NOT meant to police the ride - that is the job of the police - we just need people willing and able to look out for others and to lend a helping hand when required. <br/>
+
All rides are organised by local riders.

As a steward you will be required to: <br/>
+
Other upcoming events
- be a confident and proficient cyclist; <br/>

- be reasonable, responsible and approachable; <br/>

- arrive at the ride start point at 1.30pm for a ‘stewards briefing’; <br/>

- bring a small rucksack in which to put: a puncture repair kit, spare T-shirt, bottle of water & a bike pump (if you have any of these, it would be most appreciated if you could bring them along, if not, we will provide them); <br/>

- carry a mobile phone (for use only in emergencies). <br/>

In return, you will receive: <br/>
+
The World Naked Bike Ride from time to time holds a stall at various events.  Current events are listed below.
- a FREE World Naked Bike Ride flag (RRP £2); <br/>

- a sign identifying you as a WNBR steward; <br/>

- support, assistance and guidance from the Stewards Co-ordinator; <br/>

- a warm glow knowing that you’ve helped to make the London WNBR 2007 a success! <br/>

As a steward, you are welcome to go “as bare as you dare” although you may want to consider not riding completely in the nude as this may affect your willingness/ability to assist others. <br/>
+
Events After the WNBR
Police restrictions
 +

 +
From 2004 to 2012, there have been 59 UK Naked Bike Rides with a cumulative total of 13,000+ riders in 13 locations, and no arrests.
 +

 +
It is unlikely that police will object to nudity at future rides in England and Wales. Local police officially acknowledged the legality of full nudity at all rides from 2007 onward. They required people to wear clothes at three English rides (Brighton, Manchester and Bristol) in 2006, but have made no such restrictions at later events.
 +

 +
In contrast, Scottish police have never officially allowed full nudity at the Edinburgh rides  No arrest have been made, so the legality of the Scottish police's position has never actually been tested in court. They have in late 2018 indicated that their approach to this has changed, and that nudity will be possible in future.
 +

 +
For UK rides where full nudity wasn't permitted, police requirements of body coverage seemed to be similar. The groin area needed to be covered, as did female nipples. However, buttocks could be shown by either men or women.

Media coverage
Media coverage
 +
 +
This section needs updating. There have been much TV, Radio, print and online coverage of the WNBR in the UK, but most of this info is stored with the local ride's webpages.

Registering your interest

There are also Facebook Groups with a similar purpose as well as Facebook Events that focus on specific upcoming rides. Organisers may also use Twitter to communicate with followers.

Press enquiries

Press work is usually handled by local ride coordinators or press officers. For UK-wide information, see the United Kingdom Media Information page.

Posters

For the 2009 rides, full colour A4 posters were printed for each ride. PDF versions of them can be downloaded for:

FAQs

The United Kingdom FAQ page answers questions especially relevant to UK riders and organisers.

Legality

UK laws relating to public nudity

Police restrictions

From 2004 to 2012, there have been 59 UK Naked Bike Rides with a cumulative total of 13,000+ riders in 13 locations, and no arrests.

In contrast, Scottish police have never officially allowed full nudity at the Edinburgh rides No arrest have been made, so the legality of the Scottish police's position has never actually been tested in court. They have in late 2018 indicated that their approach to this has changed, and that nudity will be possible in future.

For UK rides where full nudity wasn't permitted, police requirements of body coverage seemed to be similar. The groin area needed to be covered, as did female nipples. However, buttocks could be shown by either men or women.

Media coverage

This section needs updating. There have been much TV, Radio, print and online coverage of the WNBR in the UK, but most of this info is stored with the local ride's webpages.
