Welcome to The World Naked Bike Ride Lexington's Wiki Page
Calling it a World Naked Bike Ride is a bit misleading if you've never heard of one before. You can fully participate in this yearly 'Bare As You Dare' protest against oil dependency with whatever you're wearing right now (if anything) to fanciful costumes.
This event happens in different cities separate, but together from one another all over the world while carrying the same message against oil dependency. The rides are usually about 10 to 20 miles or so depending on the host city and planned route.
You don't really even need a bicycle to participate. All you need is some form of non-motorized transportation. The ride is going to go slow enough(5 to 10 MPH) for unicycles and skaters to keep up, but would go too fast for people to try it on foot.
There will be a limited supply of body paint depending on the amount of participants. Donations to help cover the cost of body paint will be greatly appreciated. An after part (with booze) is in the works, and as soon as I know something I'll be updating this page.
If you have any questions like: How is this legal?, or Isn't riding a bike naked painful?, and Is this a ride around the world? can be answered in the FAQs on the left hand side. Please feel free to email me, and I'll answer your questions the best I can.
If you have a minute make a Flickr account, and join the WNBR Lex Flickr Group. Unlike Facebook Flickr doesn't care about simple nudity as long as you follow the Community Guidelines, and Facebook doesn't really do a good job sharing large amounts of photos like a Flickr group would.
Even if you can't make it, show your support on our Facebook Fan Page. If you can make it, and want to participate then join the Group to get updated on the starting location days before the Next Ride.

What's the Main message?
The main message is against Oil Dependency, and growing our Local Dependency. The main focus is on building a stronger cycling community, and to show the beauty of people while symbolizing our vulnerability on the roads unfit for cyclist with going as "bare as you dare."
Participants and Potential Volunteers
If you plan on taking Pictures or Videos please check the Photo and Video section.
If you're worried about being arrested or naked photos of you appearing on the internet then you're more then welcome to fully and completely participate with as many cloths as you feel comfortable with. Remember it's mandatory to arrive to the event fully to partially clothed. It's mainly for the after party, and you'll need to bring cloths with you to put on after the ride ends regardless. There's nothing illegal about a group of people riding bicycles together as long as we don't stop traffic for an extended period of time.
It's better for this event to assume pictures of you will appear on the internet even if you'd rather no pictures be taken of you. Any pictures of you appearing in the Flickr Group that you'd like to be removed from there will be done so immediately, and without question.

Getting More Involved (Not Required)
I know it might sound like a heavy burden, but there's little if anything I need people to do thought the year except on game day. There's zero pressure for anyone interested in helping the cause to do more then they're comfortable with doing. Even if you simply want to join in the discussion on the best way to make this idea happen ever year successfully then please goto Facebook Street Team Group or Contact Us for more info.

- Kimball Roy: (December, 1964 to August, 2010) You'll be forever missed my friend. Thanks for everything you've done to help get this idea I had into a reality. For that you'll be remembered forever.
- Lisa Powers: Is helping spread the word, and getting everything ready for action. She is a self employed ESL teacher, so if you know anyone that needs to brush up on their English or bad English in my case be sure to get the best help ever.
Street Team
I'm always looking for people to help spread the word, and one of the simplest ways to do so is to join the Facebook Fan Page. Doing so will let your friends know about the protest on Oil Dependency, but if you want to get more involved email us, and I'm sure we can find something you'd be interested in doing for the cause.
Here is a copy of the flyers I've been passing out. Kinko's will will print out about 50 sheets, and cut them into a total of 400 flyers for about $10. I bought a hole puncher and some rubber bands, and have been attaching them to the handle bar of every bicycle I've come across. I've also been passing them out at different events, and businesses like local coffee shops, gay bars and pizzerias that would let me leave a small stacks where they have a spot designated to leave flyers for costumers.
Print out the following to hand out to people or to leave a stack in businesses.
Post the following anywhere people might be like stores, bus stops, and near buttons that activate crosswalks, and be sure to cut the tabs for people to pull off.
Police
The Lexington Police were very cool with our shenanigans, but did say we had to keep our front lower bits covered.
If at any time any officers asks you to put on more cloths, or gives you instructions thank them, and do as they say.
If you're in the least bit worried about participating nude or partially clothed, then you're more then welcome to wear as much as you're comfortable with. There is nothing illegal about riding bikes in a group. Cars do it all the time so long as we don't block up traffic.
The wording of the Kentucky Laws state you have to specifically keep your genitals covered. The definition of genitals are the parts of the body that are needed to reproduce, so butts and boobies can't be indecently exposed since they're not considered genitals. But in the spirit of the WNBRs, the ride will remain as bare as you dare.
History
August 27th 2011
History was made on August 27th, 2011. About 50 to 60 riders took to the streets of Lexington, KY in protest of our seemingly endless dependency on oil. The weather was perfect, no one was arrested, and everyone had an awesome time.
Brief History on the main organizer

Troy Marusek: Ever since my right lung collapsed in 2009 for no reason whatsoever; I've felt like I've been living on borrowed time. Even thou I fear my lung collapsing again; I fear more being eighty, and wishing I'd done more.
I Attempted to ride my bicycle 1100 miles on June 6, 2010 threw June 25, 2010 from Lexington, KY to the WNBR in Chicago, IL(airbrushed as a naked Avatar) then to the WNBR in Saint louis, MO(In my socks and shoes), and back home to Lex, KY. I cheated a bit of the way with the Amtrak, so I made a total of about 800 miles on a bicycle.
