De WNBR is een jaarlijkse ludieke fietsmanifestatie in meer dan 50 steden in 20 landen over de hele wereld, waarin de deelnemers een positieve houding naar lijf en milieu willen demonstreren en bevorderen.
Het fietsen als alternatief voor autorijden is een centraal thema in de WNBR. De waardering voor het lijf als natuurlijke motor en het plezier in het fietsen wordt benadrukt door met een ludiek versierde fiets en/of versierd bloot (of bijna bloot) lijf te rijden, dress code “as bare as you dare”.
De WNBR is voor mileubewustzijn en vrede, en voor waardering en zorg voor ons lichaam. Het is een protest tegen ongebreideld gemotoriseerd verkeer en wil het gebruik van de fiets promoten: het verbruik van olie verpest het milieu en is een sluipmoordenaar door kankerverwekkend gif en fijn stof in de lucht, klimaatrampen, verkeersongevallen en ongezond leven door te weinig beweging. Bovendien is de WNBR een protest tegen olieafhankelijkheid; deze heeft immers een enorme invloed op de verhoudingen tussen landen en heeft geleid tot veel geweld en talloze slachtoffers in oorlogen en aansluitende geweldsacties.
De WNBR wil het bewustzijn van dit alles vergroten, niet door sombere verhalen maar door het simpele plezier in het leven te tonen. Daarbij versterkt het bloot fietsen, niet gekoppeld aan erotiek en seks, het gevoel van vrijheid. Het creatief versieren van de fiets en van eigen lijf -mogelijk met bodypainting- past hier bij en wordt gestimuleerd bij de WNBR.
De officiële tekst van de missie van de WNBR luidt:
“We face automobile traffic with our naked bodies as the best way of defending our dignity and exposing the unique dangers faced by cyclists and pedestrians plus all the negative effects of oil, cars, war, consumerism and non-renewable energy.”
Vrij vertaald:
“Wij trotseren het autoverkeer met onze blote lijven om respect voor onze lijven te vragen en aandacht voor alle bedreigingen waaraan ons lijf, milieu en vrede worden blootgesteld door het verbruik van brandstoffen (diesel, benzine, ...) in het verkeer, en tevens door het verbruik in het algemeen van niet-duurzame energie en grondstoffen in onze consumptiemaatschappij.”
Moet je fietsen? Je kunt meedoen met een fiets, maar rollerskates of (echt) hardlopen mag ook, als het maar met eigen lichaamskracht gaat.
Kom ook met de fiets naar Utrecht of neem de fiets mee in de trein of kom met trein/bus en huur een fiets!
Waarom fietsen? Als je fietst doe je niet mee met het kapot maken van onze aarde. Fietsen is plezierig en gezond, als je fietst voel je dat je leeft, vrij en onafhankelijk.
Moet je bloot? Jij beslist hoe bloot je wilt gaan. Als dat helemaal bloot is, is dat jouw keuze. Go as bare as you dare!
Waarom bloot? Net zoals de Aarde voelen wij ons naakt en kwetsbaar tegenover het autoverkeer. Naakt fietsen, natuurlijk en zonder schaamte is zich ook verzetten tegen de dictatuur van reclame en mode. Naakt zijn we gelijk en voelen we ons solidair met elkaar.

Op zaterdag 7 juni 2008 hebben we in Utrecht een succesvolle WNBR gereden zonder problemen. Zowel de ongeveer 25 deelnemers en deelneemsters als het publiek had er plezier in. We hebben goed geprobeerd duidelijk te maken via pers en meegevoerde slogans waarvoor we actie voeren.
De route liep dwars door het centrum van Utrecht, door drukke winkelstraten (Potterstraat, etc.), pleintjes met terrassen (Neude en Domplein) en langs mooie rustige stukjes (Oude Gracht, Catharijnesingel, etc.).
We hebben zo'n drie kwartier dwars door het centrum van Utrecht gereden Daarna zijn we in ruim een kwartier over een rustige en leuke weg langs de Vaartse Rijn naar Park Transwijk gereden, waar het festival voor de actie "Geen halve maatregelen, Klimaatwet Nu! (met o.a. De Dijk en Stevie Ann) werd gehouden. Dat concert was in feite de reden om dit jaar de WNBR in Utrecht te houden, om daarmee tevens die actie te ondersteunen: de actie wil krachtige maatregelen voor het klimaat, ten gunste van energiebesparing en van schone en duurzame energie en tegen uitstoot van broeikasgassen, juist iets dat de WNBR ook wil promoten. The Dutch ride on Saturday 7 June 2008 (from 1:00pm) will be in Utrecht, supporting and cooperating with the action for a powerful Climate Law aiming at saving energy and restricting to clean renewable energy.
By experimenting with several ideas we have found a nice route, smoothly avoiding problems with motorised and walking traffic and showing some picturesque parts of Utrecht.
On the 7th of june 1pm we will gather under the modern part of the main office of NS (Dutch Railways) at the Laan van Puntenburg 100, a high building made of steel, glass and beton (see first picture above). From the trains you can reach it as follows: go up to the station hal. Then go a little in the direction Hoog Catharijne (the shopping center), then turn to the right to the "streekbussen" (the station of the regional busses) (see second picture above). When you have come down to the regional busses square, traverse this parallel to the railway. At the end is our gathering point. From there we will go to a small and quiet park for the last preparations: decorating bike and/or body, unclothing, possibly bodypainting, etc. From there the real ride will start.
We will ride about ¾ of an hour through the center of Utrecht, some parts with heavy traffic and/or much public. Other parts are more quiet and scenic, often along the old canals of Utrecht. After this center route we will ride along a nice, more rural canal, the Vaartse Rijn, to Park Transwijk, where the concert for the action for a powerful climate law is held -in fact, the reason why the 2008 Dutch WNBR is in Utrecht- and we will finish in this park. If you don't want to take your bike with you to Utrecht, you may hire one. There can be found 4 hire shops in Utrecht at http://www.ertussenuit.com/links/22-12-1.htm The first and last on the list are most near to the railway station and the place where we come together. Reservation recommended.
If you don't like to be recognized on photographs or films (in journals, internet, etc.), use make up for your face and/or large sunglasses. The more eye-catching such things are, the less recognizable you are.
It is important that our messages are made clear to the public. It is not obliged or necessary but recommended to show your WNBR slogan(s) in the ride, possibly on your body or on paper hanging on your bike.
