Newcastle University Bike Users Group
The University of Newcastle Bicycle Users' Group (BUG) is a cycling advocacy group, which seeks to promote cycling for fun, sport and transport.
By broadly representing students and staff who ride to university, we airm to encourage the University of Newcastle, RailCorp, the Roads and Traffice Authority and Newcastle City Council to provide more infrastructure to support cycling, and make it safer and more convenient way to commute and stay healthy.
By putting more commuters on bikes, we hope to ease parking, road safety, obesity and pollution problems created by cars.

Students
NUSA Environment Collective - Ride a Bike Campaign
The Newcastle University Students' Association, Enviro Collective is the student environmental group on The University of Newcastle campus. In mid 2009 the Enviro Collective began the Ride a Bike Campaign to encourage bike use over car use among the Uni community. Riding a bike has minimal environmental impact, does not produce green house gasses or toxic emissions, does not produce noise pollution, is far cheaper than driving a car and it is easier to find somewhere to park your bike. Parking on campus for a year costs more than the price of many new bikes and decent second hand models.
Newcastle University Bike Users Group
Bike Love Corral has attended the Orientation Week at the University of Newcastle and helped with the stall for Newcastle University Bike Users' Group.
Students, staff, alumni and riders who visit campus all have an interest in the success of this group to lobby for better bike facilities like bike paths, bike racks, lockers and showers on campus plus better cycleways that link campus to the rest of Newcastle. Feel free to join if you have an interest in cycling for utility, advancing and promoting cycling and cycling facilities, cycling for recreation, fitness, sport, environment, community, protest or just plain fun in or in connection with The University of Newcastle.
Members of NUBUG are encouraged to network and promote bike activities that interest them and their peers. Maybe that could involve a social ride with a picnic, or a sweaty fast sports ride, or a mountain bike bush ride - its up to them and maybe you if you want to join. Bike Love Corral donated a very shiny almost brand spanking new Dunlop Ladies 18 speed Montain Bike which is being raffled as an incentive for people to sign up for membership. All new members get a chance in the draw. Membership costs only a dollar. Tom Marshall is the convenor of the group and main student behind the NUBUG and you may contact him to join as a member: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=643812081&ref=ts
The Inaugrual General Meeting is expected in the second week of semester (to be confirmed). The prize bike will be drawn then. Other NUBUG activities will be planned but as the club is just beginning it is up to the new members to get their direction. For the time being, members can take an interest in the events and bike activism cultural stuff that the Bike Love Corral partners present.
If you want to be an affilliate member (that is free but lacks voting rights and can not run for elected positions) you can still be active within the group and join the mailing list. Here is the mailing list for NUBUG: http://boron.ocoth.net/mailman/listinfo/bikeusersgroup_nusa.org.au
