Next ride
Date: Saturday 6 March 2010
Time: Late morning, exact time to be determined
Location: Nimbin, NSW, exact place to be determined
Ride details
The ride will occur Saturday the 6th of March 2010. Assembly place will be somewhere in Nimbin and the assembly time probably in the late morning but these details need to be determined exactly.
Organisers will lead the riders to a secret place for de-briefing and body painting. The ride is clothing optional so you can choose how much or how little you want to wear.
Some bikes will be available to borrow for the ride if you are a backpacker or out-of-town visitor but the number of bikes is limited. Bring your own bike if you are a local to guarantee you can join the ride.
A nurse will be coming on the ride who will perform first aid if anyone suffers a mishap.
Body painting
We will endeavour to protect the environment as much as we can. To further this, please consider bringing local river ochres for use as body paint if you can.
After ride party
There is an after ride party being organised for participants who have completed the ride. After the ride, we will return to the starting location to get cleaned up.
We expect to have some musicians to entertain us, and some food and drink. It will be easier if we bring our own goodies, but we will sell 'tickets' at Peace Park for sausage sandwiches for those so inclined. We could possibly also get 'notdogs' or the like as well. The food will then be bought in town and taken to the party site. Beer consortiums could also be formed at this time, and a similar methods used. A little bit of planning here can make it a much nicer day.
The owners of our venue have agreed that the after-party can continue with the clothes-optional theme.
The venue has a swimming pool that will be available for our enjoyment, but users will have to first have cleaned off their body paint. Showers will also be available.
Yay !
Warnings
We are not supplying alcohol - you are. Please keep the drinking etc until after the ride for a better time for all. Cycling while under the influence of alcohol can certainly get you arrested, and your driving license may be at risk.
What to bring
- A bike in working order. If you have a bike in need of repair or do not have a bike please visit the Bicycle Recycling Network. A limited number of bikes will be available to borrow for the ride so it is best to avoid disappointment and bring your own. You can ride a scooter or skates if you want to because any form of human powered transport is OK.
- You MUST have a proper bike helmet.
- Bring your friends.
- You need to arrive clothed. Seriously, some people have not done this.
- You need decent shoes for cycling because you may hurt your feet otherwise.
- You need somewhere to put your clothes while you are riding. A luggage rack on your bike, or panniers or a basket that you can put your bag with your clothes. Clothing is optional on the ride and you are perfectly welcome to ride clothed or naked or somewhere in between.
- Apply sunscreen before the event.
- River ochres for body painting to save the environment.
- Bring a bottle of water.
- Bring some money for the after party or bring your own food and drink.
What not to bring
- Alcohol or drugs. Ride in control and safe. Save your alcohol consumption for the after party.
Byron Bay
Byron Bay rides in March 2010. Byron Bay is within commuting distance of Nimbin so keen participants can ride in both these places.
Organiser
Media enquiries for Nimbin: please contact Jacmul the WNBR Nimbin Organiser.
Women’s Support Woman
A local woman has volunteered for the role of Women’s Support Woman for WNBR Nimbin. The Women’s Support Woman (WSW) role is to offer special support to women who have any concerns about their participation or potential participation in the event. The WSW will be attending the whole of the event and will be available to help all women participants. The WSW will be making a special effort to ensure that female participants feel comfortable while being a mentor. If you wish to assist the local woman in this role or would like to ask any relevant questions, please email the Women’s Support Woman.

2009 ride report
- Date: Saturday 7 March 2009
- Time: 10:30 am
- Location: Peace Park, central Nimbin
Well, folks. the inaugural Nimbin Ride has been run on Saturday 7 March 2009 and
was a great success. It started off slow, with few people at the meeting time,
but when bicycles started appearing it sort of avalanched. It takes bikes to
attract bikes.
There was some discussion about the painting venue, so we compromised by
stopping at the creek en-route to the intended venue, which proved to be a
delightful spot. Some did not want to go out of town, and so waited for us in
town.
The painting party was a lot of fun, with a creek for those still waiting. We
had two excellent body painting artists there, Elbereth and Tanya. There were no
houses around, and only driveways to three properties, two of which were
backpacker places.
We made ready to ride just after 1pm, with the crowd going up the hill slowly, a
photograph opportunity in a cul-de-sac, and then into the town.
Riding into the town, we got an enourmous response from the crowd that had
formed. We came back for another transit, and both the crowd in the town AND the
crowd of bicycles had grown !- the magic of Nimbin. The motorists were mostly
quite patient, some of them were obviously unaware of our schenanigans in
advance. We circled for a while in the centre of town and then departed
gracefully to our clean-up and party venue.
Not all of the riders came back to the party, however, so the prizes for
attendees were easy to win - one of the two US tourists (who just joined us that
morning on a borrowed bike) won the prize for best presented. His painting was
by Elbereth (Wait until you see it !). The raffles also went quite well, with
generosity from those winning things they did not want/could not use putting
them back in the hat for others.
One of the prizes was a barbie doll on a tricycle - see the pre-ride photo
album, which also has some painting up shots. As more photos come in , I shall
place more albums up.
The help from Nimbin community was excellent, the Media support fantastic, but
at the end of the day it goes down the the riders and decorators - great job all
!
Special kudos to those that brought not only their own materials, but also gear
for others and to lend.
Media Coverage
We were fortunate to have our own community radio station 'NIM-FM' in Nimbin,
and there were two interviews on this channel, on the Monday before the ride and
the day before. The local Nimbin paper 'Nimbin Good Times' also ran a story. But
on the wider scene, we also got an interview and photographs in the Northern
Star the day before (Front Page !), an article in the Echo (thanks to our Byron
Buddies there), and an interview on ABC local the day before. NBN came and
covered the event on the day, getting an early interview and footage of the
event itself, which screened on the 6PM News that night ! An internet magazine
'Cycle Sport News' also covered the event, and assisted in some marshalling
activities. Nimbin Good Times was there and took photos, and we had several
other photographers in attendance as well. So our message has certainly got out
there!
Thanks to all our sponsors that helped cover the costs of staging the event, with cash, goods, or services:

Legality
The laws that are relevant to public nudity in New South Wales are applicable througout the state. For discussion of this topic, please refer to the separate page about New South Wales Laws.
Future
In July 2008 an Organiser volunteered to help make a WNBR happen in Nimbin on Saturday the 7th of March 2009. The Organiser has several associates who are helping and there is strong commitment to make the 2010 event even bigger. People interested in participating or helping organise the 2010 WNBR in Nimbin should join the discussion group, try to make contact with others with similar views and demonstrate some initiative. It will happen if you help make it happen! Please refer to the Organizing a ride page for more information about starting or restarting a ride.
Publicity: flyers, posters, images etc
A WNBR Nimbin flyer / poster will be drafted and uploaded here when all of the ride details are determined (i.e. assembly time and location). Watch this space!
Australia
These are the current flyer, poster and BIG POSTER to be used for the WNBR Australia 2010 to help promote participation. Please print these and stick them up where people will see them. Why not colour one in and stick it to your refrigerator?
