WORLD NAKED BIKE RIDE - NUDECASTLE

The next WORLD NAKED BIKE RIDE - NUDECASTLE will be held on Sunday the 12th of March 2006. Assemble 7:00AM at the Merewether Surf Life Saving Club.

Following is a report on the most recent meeting of interested participants and organisers: World Naked Bike Ride Nudecastle Minutes 25.01.06

Interested riders attended the Oriental Hotel to discuss aspects of the next World Naked Bike Ride Nudecastle to be held on the 12th of March 2006.

The protest themes of the ride are: 'PROTEST AGAINST OIL DEPENDENCY, CARS & WAR! PROTEST FOR PEACE, LOVE, FREEDOM, THE ENVIRONMENT, PUBLIC TRANSPORT & BIKES.' The time to assemble and the assembly place for the ride were decided. Time: 7:00 AM Place: Merewether SLSC

The venue for body painting and the ride route will be kept secret (as last year) and will be revealed as the ride is in progress.

A post ride party will take place at a café or another venue where it is possible to drink alcohol (either B.Y.O. or licensed). Not a lot of pubs are open before noon on Sunday morning and booking a venue is difficult when there is no way of knowing how many people will turn up. Arranging to meet for a drink later in the day probably would not see people reassemble for the post ride celebration. The celebration drink must follow immediately after the ride. Possible venue will be investigated. Details will be circulated as they come to hand.

The possibility of giving a prize to the person (other than an established organiser) who recruited the most participants was discussed and a suggested prize was a bike in excellent condition. A registration of competitors for the suggested prize may be needed and possibly a bonus prize for the winners team (like slabs of cold beer). Marte will see what can be done in this regard.

NEWS FLASH - Critical Mass Newcastle have agreed to donate a pushbike in excellent condition for the purpose of promoting the World Naked Bike Ride Nudecastle. If you can bring the most number of people to the event (and are not one of the established organisers) you will win the bike! All the riders in the team that you assemble will be given a generous open order at the Pub at the after event celebration. To keep things fair, competitors in the recruiting contest need to register by emailing Marte at least the day before the ride with the name of your team. Or, if you see any of the organisers before the ride, give them your team name and secret pseudonym in writing. The bike winner will be the person who assembles the biggest team who complete the ride. The winner must also be able to tell Marte their email address or secret pseudonym.

A Women’s Support Woman was needed to be found before the ride. Volunteers are welcome to step forward.

A stall will be set up at the university during orientation week (13th to 17th of February) promoting Critical Mass and the World Naked Bike Ride. The aim of the promotion will be to increase participation in both events by uni students. The stall has been booked. One volunteer has offered to attend the stall and other volunteers are welcome to help. Flyers and posters will be needed.

An ice-breaking will be organised for the weekend preceding (4th or 5th of March) the WNBR. This will be held at some pub with a good sized outdoor beer garden that offers privacy from the street and BBQ facilities. Drinking, team building exercises and mandatory introductions would be included as well as a practice, bare as you dare, body painting session. People who attended would “pay as you go” for their own drinks and food. A possible venue will be investigated. Details will be circulated as they come to hand.

NEWS FLASH - Venue FOUND for WNBR Nudecastle Icebreaker - the Lass O'Gowrie, 14 Railway St Wickham 2293, Saturday the 4th of March 2006, 12 noon. Get your drinks at the bar and bring things to BBQ, your swimmers, body paints and foam brushes. Introductions, drinking, BBQing, more drinking and practice body painting (in your swimmers). A new poster and flyer will be drafted that indicates the start time and assembly place for the ride. The poster and flyer would be updated as the details of the icebreaker event became definite.

An update on the cities that are expected to participate in the southern hemisphere WNBR was given. The cities are: Atlanta, Georgia, USA; St Petersberg, Florida, USA; Tampa, Florida, USA; Golden Bay, New Zealand; Lake Tekapo, New Zealand; Auckland, New Zealand; and Newcastle, Australia Three other Australian cities are showing some sign of getting organised but are not yet definite. Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane might participate.
