Welcome to The World Naked Bike Ride Lexington's official Wiki Page
Important Note: The ride is next year in 2011

Intro
Calling it a World Naked Bike Ride is a bit misleading if you've never heard of one before. You can fully participate in this clothing optional protest against oil dependency with whatever you're wearing right now (if anything) to fanciful costumes.
This event happens in different cities separate, but together from one another all over the world while carrying the same message against oil dependency. The rides are usually about 20 miles or so depending on the host city and planned route.
You don't really even need a bicycle to participate. All you need is some form of non-motorized transportation. The ride is going to go slow enough(5 to 10 MPH) for unicycles and skaters to keep up, but would go too fast for people to try it on foot.
There will be body painters, and a limited supply of body paint depending on the amount of participants. Donations to the painters will be appreciated, but isn't mandatory. An after part (with booze) is in the works, and as soon as I know something I'll be updating this page.
If you have any questions like: How is this legal?, or Isn't riding a bike naked painful?, and Is this a ride around the world? can be answered in the FAQs on the left hand side. Please feel free to email me, and I'll answer your questions the best I can.
Is 2011 a Typo?
Nope. There are a few people planning this event, so I just want to make sure we can get a full school year in to pass out flyers to the three major universities(UK, EKU, and Transy) before we kick start this yearly ride.
We've only got one chance to kick start this annual ride right. 2011 seems like a long ways off, but it'll be here before you know it. Don't worry we'll be feeling the effects of the largest oil disaster for decades to come.
Next ride
Date: August 27, 2011
Time: Meetup 7 PM EST, Departs 9 PM EST Rain or Shine
Location: TBA days before the ride
Please join the group to get updates, and to find out the starting location days before the event date.
Do not arrive to the meetup naked.
What's the Main message?
The main message is against Oil Dependency, and growing our Local Dependency. The main focus is on building a stronger cycling community.
There has been nudity in other bike rides, but nudity is only used as a tool to symbolize the vulnerability we feel on streets unsafe for bikes; It's also used to promote a better self image with going as "bare as you dare." The message is specifically against Oil Dependency that damages the environment of all kinds, and car culture.
What does The Bible say about nudity?
If you know of any scriptures for or against nudity that I've missed please contact us, and I'll be sure to include them. I'm only looking to lay out the facts in an unbiased way for people of the Christian faith to decide on participating.
Genesis 2:25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
Genesis 9:21-23 And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father....
1 Samuel 18:1-4 The soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. ... Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.
1 Samuel 19:24 And he stripped off his clothes also, and prophesied before Samuel in like manner, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say, Is Saul also among the prophets?
2 Samuel 6:20 And Michal ... came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!
Isaiah 20:3-4 And the LORD said, Like as my servant Isaiah hath walked naked and barefoot three years for a sign and wonder upon Egypt and upon Ethiopia; So shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians prisoners, and the Ethiopians captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, even with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.
Micah 1:8 Therefore I will wail and howl, I will go stripped and naked.
Mark 14:51-52 And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him: And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.
John 21:7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.
Spectators
Your job sitting back, and cheering us on is as important as the participants themselves. Please tell your friends, and don't forget the camera.
As tempting as it is please leave the meetup location to the participants. I've made sure to map the route past as many bars, restaurant, and parks as I could. I'll be posting all the hot spots to meetup to watch us pass by days before the ride date.

All Donations are received using PayPal. $10 will get us 400 precut flyers of the Street Team flyers

NYC Ride: 2nd Saturday of June, 2011 WNBR NYC
Street Team
I'm always looking for people to help spread the word, and one of the simplest ways to do so is to join the Facebook Page. Doing so will let your friends know about the protest on Oil Dependency, but if you want to get more involved email us, and I can find something you'd be interested in doing for the cause.
Here is a copy of the flyers I've been passing out. Kinko's will will print out about 50 sheets, and cut them into a total of 400 flyers for about $10. I bought a hole puncher and some rubber bands, and have been attaching them to the handle bar of every bicycle I've come across. I've also been passing them out at different events, and businesses like local coffee shops, gay bars and pizzerias that would let me leave a small stacks where they have a spot designated to leave flyers for costumers.
Police
From the two World Naked Bike Rides I've been in(stark naked), the police officers made sure we were safe on the ride, and escorted us to help stop traffic. Some officers enjoyed the day off of crime fighting, and took pictures and videos on their personal cameras like spectators.
This doesn't mean we won't face resistance from officers for starting one. Even thou protesting peacefully without anyones permission is a basic American right the police might not see it that way. It's possible for anyone to be arrested in any protest you participate in, and participation is at your own risk. If at any time any officers asks you to put on more cloths, or gives you instructions thank them, and do as they say.
History

Is in the process of being made.
Brief History on the main organizer
Troy Marusek: Ever since my right lung collapsed in 2009 for no reason whatsoever; I've felt like I've been living on borrowed time. Even thou I fear my lung collapsing again; I fear more being eighty, and wishing I'd done more.
I Attempted to ride my bicycle 1100 miles on June 6, 2010 threw June 25, 2010 from Lexington, KY to the WNBR in Chicago, IL( airbrushed as a naked Avatar) then to the WNBR in Saint louis, MO(In my socks and shoes), and back home to Lex, KY. I cheated a bit of the way with the Amtrak from Bloomington, IL to St. Louis, MO, so I made a total of about 800 miles on a bike.

Co-organizers
- Kimball Roy: (December, 1964 to August, 2010) You'll be forever missed my friend. Thanks for everything you've done to help get this idea I had into a reality. For that you'll be remembered forever.
- Lisa Powers: Is helping spread the word, and getting everything ready for action. She is a self employed ESL teacher, so if you know anyone that needs to brush up on their English or bad English in my case be sure to get the best help ever.
