2007 Dates
In order to help encourage as many cities as possible to attend this event there will be two primary ride dates for the Northern Hemisphere ride in 2007. June 9th and Saturday June 30th.
The Southern Hemisphere ride will be on Saturday 10 March 2007.
The Black Rock City ride will be as usual during the Burning Man festival which is in late August.
Since this is an international event with the goal of being as inclusive as possible this website will help promote all WNBR rides regardless of the date a particular country or city chooses to ride on. Cities are however strongly encouraged to choose dates that are on or as close as possible to the agreed upon dates. This helps builds solidarity and creates a strong media presence.
Rides must also abide by some very simple requirements.
London
London has decided to ride on 9 June 2007.
Seattle
Seattle has some conflicts that it needs to consider for scheduling. This ride must not conflict with the Solstice Cyclists on the Saturday closest to Summer Solstice in June or Body Pride Ride which is the week after that. We also want to avoid conflict with any regional Burning Man events such as Critical Massive and Burn in the Forest (mid July) or the Seattle to Portland Ride (if possible). We also really enjoyed the Group Health Bicycle Saturday and Sundays event, which is only on select weekends. Also, if we schedule too late in the summer, it is harder for us to get access to the International Fountain at the Seattle Center. Hemp Ride is not a concern since it will always be scheduled around WNBR. It would also be good not to conflict with Bare Buns Fun Runs.
Warm enough ?
Early June is a little to cold for many North American cities. Brrrrrr. Both Ottawa and Chicago got freeze out this year. It also normally rains in the early part of June in Vancouver, Victoria and Seattle. That is why we will be adding a second ride date on about June 30th, or close to there. If you think this date is still not warm enough, or it conflicts with another major event please send me an e-mail. We would still like to keep all the rides as close as possible together.
If we are going to get all 6 billion people participating in WNBR we need to accommodate as many cities as possible.
