Intro

WNBR Lexington Emblem

Calling it a World Naked Bike Ride is a bit misleading if you've never heard of one before. This is a clothing optional protest against oil dependency that happens in different cities separate, but together from one another all over the world while carrying the same message against oil dependency. The rides are usually about 20 miles depending on the host city and planned route. Something else is the word 'naked'; You can go with what your wearing right now (if anything), and fully participate in the protest.

There will be body painters, and a limited supply of body paint depending on the amount of participants. Donations to the painters will be appreciated, but isn't mandatory. An after part (with booze) is in the works, and as soon as I know something I'll be updating this page.

If you have any questions like: How is this legal?, or Isn't riding a bike naked painful?, and Is this a ride around the world? can be answered in the FAQs on the left hand side. Please feel free to email me, and I'll answer your questions the best I can.

Street Team

I'm always looking for people to help spread the word, and one of the simplest ways to do so is to join the Facebook Page doing so will let your friends know about the protest on Oil Dependency.

If you want to get more involved here is a copy of the flyers I've been passing out. Kinko's will will print out about 50 sheets, and cut them into a total of 400 flyers for about $10. I bought a hole puncher and some rubber bands, and have been attaching them to the handle bar of every bicycle I've come across. I've also been passing them out at different events, and businesses like local coffee shops and gay bars and pizzerias that would let me leave a small stacks where they have a spot designated to leave flyers for costumers.

Police

From the two World Naked Bike Rides I've been in(stark naked), the police officers made sure we were safe on the ride, and escorted us to help stop traffic. Some officers enjoyed the day off of crime fighting, and took videos on their personal cameras like spectators.

This doesn't mean we won't face resistance from officers for starting one. Even thou protesting peacefully without anyones permission is a basic American right the police might not see it that way. It's rare but possible for anyone fully or partially naked to be arrested on the ride, and participation fully or partially naked is at your own risk. If at any time any officers asks you to put on more cloths, or gives you instructions thank them, and do as they say.

As soon as I know there are enough participants to kick off this ride I'll be going to police HQ on main street to see about a police escort, and to let them know the route. I'll update this part with their response in the upcoming months.

Brief History on the main organizer

Troy Marusek: I Attempted to ride my bicycle 1100 miles on June 6, 2010 threw June 25, 2010 from Lexington, KY to the WNBR in Chicago, IL(20 miles naked airbrushed as an Avatar) then to the WNBR in Saint louis, MO(naked with socks and shoes), and back home to Lex, KY. I cheated a bit of the way with the Amtrak from Bloomington, IL to St. Louis, MO, so I made a total of about 800 miles on a bike.
