archived: This here in front (linking to the 'Archived ride locations' overview) can only been seen within the 'List of rides' page.

This template is not archived, it serves archiving. It has two distinct functions:
1) In the 'List of rides' page, underneath a country title and when appropriate that name in native language(es), it should be followed by the (series of) link(s) tot the individual archived ride location page(s). Invoking the template's 'Archived' link, shows these locations in the manner of the more recently active ones on the List of rides. A reader would likely be interested in the ones behind the template, thus pass the exact country name (as in that title) but any space character replaced with underscore ' _ ' as a parameter: The reader will end up precisely there.
{{Archived|New_Zealand}}
2) In a ride location page that became archived, simply letting the reader realize that fact. The talk page linked here at top of this template shows also the archiving procedure. It is unusual though possible to add text behind "start or restart a ride at name of the archived ride location page", simply put it in a parameter (the template will move the ' . ' behind your text), e.g.:
{{Archived|, and please contact John (see chapter Eager volunteers)}}
2bis) In other archived pages: For special usage, beyond this user manual. Please contact an admin on this World Naked Bike Ride wiki before continuing in this direction.
The usage 2) and 2bis) ensures putting the calling page name into Category:Archived pages
Known weakness: It is not possible to pass a vertical bar ' | ' in a parameter. One can pass [[linked page name]] but not [[linked page name|shown text]].
