The World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) is an annual demonstration that draws attention to the absurdity of oil and gas dependency and celebrates the potential of cycling and the human body. The overuse of the planet's vanishing oil reserves causes pollution, global warming and leads to war, inequality and injustice. Many politicians want to subsidise the car industry and build more runways. They call such follies progress but this is progress towards disaster.

Start at the junction of Esplanade and St Georges Road in Eastney; along the Esplanade, pass Canoe Lake and South Parade Pier along Sea Front to Clarence Pier (ice cream stop) - Pembroke Rd and Old Portsmouth - St Georges Rd (Old Portsmouth) - Hard for a break and Photo Opportunities with Spinnaker Tower or Warrior in the background - Queen Street past HMS Nelson- cross Anglesea Road into Edinburgh Road - Commercial Road South and right into Stanhope Road - Left back into Edinburgh Road - retrace route to Museum Road, Cambridge Junction (near Ravelin Park - Kings Road, Elm Grove, right then left into Albert Road; Festing Road; right at end, back towards South Parade Pier; left along seafront (use righthand side of road where there is a cycle track) and back to start at St Georges Road/ Esplanade Junction.

We have notified the police of our intention to ride in protest against oil dependency and in celebration of bicycles. From 2004 to 2011, there have been well over 40 UK Naked Bike Rides with a cumulative total of over 8,000+ riders in 13 locations, and no arrests. In 2011, Portsmouth Police allowed full nudity, with no problems.

2017

The organisation of the 2014 Ride passed to two much younger people than the previous incumbent, who put on the first three Portsmouth WNBRs almost single-handed, and the new organisers also enjoy the tremendous advantage of being female!!! So let's make next year's event the best yet!!

2012

In 2012, we had just under 80 riders, and considerably less adverse comments. It was a brilliant day, there were a good number of ladies, and FIVE unicycles!!!

2011

2011 saw the first ride, attracting 28 1/2 riders, and a deal of opposition from Family Church. It was well recieved by the people of Portsmouth!

Southampton
Nearly a year before the ride date, there had been plans to organize a connecting ride from Portsmouth to Southampton, where the WNBR started 6½ hours later.

Because of the controversy generated by a local group of christians, the inaugural 2011 event generated rather more than its fair share of publicity!
