UK Rides History

2008

In 2008 the rides will likely be clustered around the weekend of 7-8 June 2008. There are new UK rides anticipated in Cambridge, Bristol, Cardiff. The five ride locations from 2007 are anticipated to repeat in York, Southampton, Manchester, London, and Brighton. There is some discussion about possibly holding rides in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Oxford.

2007

In 2007, there were 5 UK rides in June. York - 5pm on 8 June 2007 (65 riders on a 5 mile route) Southampton - 6pm on 8 June 2007 (102 riders) Manchester - 6pm on 8 June 2007 (50 riders) Brighton - 10am on 9 June 2007 (220 riders on a 7 mile route) London - 3pm on 9 June 2007 (1000 riders on the traditional 6 mile route)

Local police officially permitted nudity at each of the 2007 events. Now there have been 14 UK based WNBR events with a cumulative total of nearly 3,000 riders in 9 locations, and no arrests ever. At four events police required clothes (Edinburgh 2004, Brighton 2006, Manchester 2006, Bristol 2006).

2006

York - 5pm on 9 June 2006 (60 riders on a 5 mile route)
Manchester - 5pm on 9 June 2006 (30 riders). Police required some clothes.
Brighton - 10am on 10 June 2006 (160 riders on a 6 mile route). Police required some clothes.
London - 3pm on 10 June 2006 (800 riders on a 6 mile route)
Bristol - 14 October 2006 (17 riders on a spontaneous route for 1hr). Police required some clothes.

2005

London - 3pm on 10 June (250 riders on a 6 mile route)
Bath - on 11 June (20 riders at the Wacky Races event for The Wheel Thing)

2004

Edinburgh - afternoon of 12 June (70 riders on a spontaneous route). Police required some clothing.
Sussex - on 12 June two brave riders made the smallest UK WNBR to date London - 8pm on 12 June (58 riders on a negotiated spontaneous 2.5 mile route through Hyde Park)

The on-ride nudity was accepted by police for all rides except Edinburgh 2004, Brighton 2006, and Bristol 2006. London's 2005 ride was the first to have an agreement with police beforehand that nudity would be tolerated on the protest.
