Winter Wonderland 2009

Melbourne Organisers have indicated their enthusiasm for a winter ride in 2009 on the weekend of the Northern Hemisphere WNBRide date of Saturday the 13th of June 2009. The exact date, time to assemble and assembly location is yet to be determined. It might be on either Friday 12 or Saturday 13 evenings or nights. Possibly around Fitzroy like last time but no one knows yet.

Please check back here for details which are expected to be announced around the 7th of May.

After a few warming brews, all the riders will make their way to the secret location for debreifing and probably body painting. Organisers will help you find it on the night.

Winter Wonderland falls on the date of the northern hemisphere WNBR and is a ride in support and solidarity with our two wheeled sisters and brothers riding north of the equator. Special tribute is made to those northern riders who braved their own winters to ride in solidarity with the southern hemisphere in March. In 2008 the Northern Hemisphere city was Eugene Oregan, USA. In 2009 Eugene and Brighton & Hove rode in solidarity.

Winter Wonderland 2009 is not expected to be as large as the Melbourne Summer ride held in March or as elaborate. It is for the brave with a crazy enthusiasm for celebrating WNBR as a global happening. It will be cold so think about wooly lined gloves and wearing a beanie under your helmet and ug boots. Scarves are OK but mind you do not get it tangled in your spokes. Last year some riders brought hot water bottles that they carried in their back packs. After the ride there will be a plan to get toasty warm again like having fireside Irish coffees.

March 2009 Pre-Ride Details

We face automobile traffic with our naked bodies as the best way of defending our dignity and exposing the unique dangers faced by cyclists and pedestrians plus all the negative effects of oil, cars, war, consumerism and non-renewable energy.

WORLD NAKED BIKE RIDE, MELBOURNE 2009
This is a secret ride.....

Once everyone has arrived at 3pm at the Union Club Hotel, Corner of Gore and Webb Sts (the assembly place) and meet all the riders over a refreshment, we will ride to a undisclosed location to de-brief and paint slogans and decorate our bikes and bodies in preparation for the start.

This time...we are prepared and are supported by a police liaison lawyer......protecting our rights...Everyone will have the chance to go naked!

Protest in blissful naked totally non threatening peaceful vulnerability. Inspire others to get out their bikes and join in the fun and delight of no emissions and naked freedom.

The WNBR message addresses the world wide issue of sustainable transport and advocates more environmentally friendly cycling and less polluting cars and trucks.

The WNBR is an annual clothing-optional protest ride for naturism, environmentalism, peace and the rights of cyclists to use the road safely.

Legality

Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are always welcome to join the cause. Heidi Hill is the current lead organiser and helped make the March 2008 ride the biggest to date in Australia. Heidi would appreciate any help you can give. Can you volunteer to help organise in 2009? The work will be shared around a team of volunteers so please do not think you will get heaps of work loaded onto you. It's easy and fun. Please join the WNBR Melbourne Yahoo!
