The third World Naked Bike Ride in Brighton & Hove will probably take place in the morning of Saturday 7 June 2008 (to be confirmed). Over 200 riders took part in 2007, 160 in 2006, and more are expected in 2008. As of the 2007 ride, and following negotiations with Sussex Police, full nudity is permitted at the event. The ride will allow people to participate in both the Brighton & Hove ride and the afternoon London ride if they travel by train.

The ride also celebrates Brighton's status as a Cycle Demonstration Town.

Post-ride party (clothing-optional) : Thursday 5 July 2007, 7pm-11pm, upstairs at the Sanctuary Café

Next ride

Time: TBC – probably 10am (ride will set off around 10.30-10.45am)
Location: The Level, Brighton, BN2 3FX

Body decorating workshop: 9am. Please bring body paints
Route: The 2007 route, as in 2006, went via Brighton and Hove, past a number of local attractions (Brighton Pier, The Royal Pavilion, the seafront etc), before finishing at Black Rock naturist beach (within striking distance of Brighton Train Station) in time to catch trains and join the afternoon London ride. Get involved!

Ride on the day

Please show your support for this event and its message by riding "as bare as you dare" on the day. If you haven't got a bike, these can be hired from Planet Cycles, next to West Pier (01273 748881).

Spread the word

The more people know about the ride, the more will come. The more people come and ride, the more successful the event will be, and the safer riders will feel.

History

2007

After an initial impasse with Sussex Police in which they threatened to arrest participants and charge organisers for policing costs, an agreement was reached whereby the ride could go ahead naked as planned. Over 200 cyclists (including a tall unicyclist, an inline skater, two sound systems and two tandems) took part on a cloudy but hot day.

2006

160-200 cyclists (and one skateboarder) took part in Brighton & Hove's first ride, on a blazing hot day! Chief Superintendent Jeremy Paine ruled against the exposure of "rude bits" (ie: genitals), but Sussex Police were friendly and helpful in facilitating the ride.

2005

Nick Sayers took part in the London ride, and was so inspired he decided the event must come to Brighton & Hove, its spiritual home!

2004

Not far from Brighton, on 12 June 2004, two riders took part in a naked bike ride in the Ashdown Forest.
