Talk:Archived ride locations
User manualTo put the English text hereunder in another language, click its 2-character code in the above series.
The 'Archived ride locations' page is designed to help cleanup the global 'List of rides' page. Rides may have lapsed after a year or so, or never got off the ground. In some cases, a promoter created a new page only to post a spam link, never intending to organize a WNBR. Anyway, here's how to archive such rides, or bring one back if you're serious about organizing a ride in any of these cities.
This typically involves 3 pages:
- A 'ride location page' about the city or town, by its name in English language, with presentation and/or documentation of the planned and/or held WNBR(s).
- 'List of rides', the global overview of WNBR locations that —on this wiki— show fairly recent activity and/or earlier have shown proof of at least one effectively carried out WNBR.
- 'Archived ride locations', the global list of locations at which a WNBR had been planned and/or may have occurred but hitherto without presenting proof on their page, and appear inactive.
Archive a ride location
If a ride has lapsed (and there had not been earlier sure, documented rides):
1) | Add the link to the 'ride location page' (even if that page would not exist) behind «Archived:» — In the Edit window [tab 'Edit'] of the 'List of rides', out of the location's ride line, copy the link to the 'ride location page' with the name in local language(s), if present, & paste it to the top of the country's list of (activated) locations. The line «Archived:» gets cities/towns in alphabetical order. If the country would not yet have a line «Archived:», set it as detailed hereunder: |
Example: ===Germany===
2) | From the 'List of rides' (while still in its Edit window [tab 'Edit']), cut the location's ride line (including the complete ..., ... information, if any) & paste it into the 'Archived ride locations' (in its Edit window [tab 'Edit']) under the proper country/area, alphabetically by location. Change the «Ride status tab» to Kickstart this ride: |
Example: * Muenster (Münster) keep any details 27 Jun 2009
3) | At the very top of the Edit window [tab 'Edit'] of the hereby archived 'ride location page' (if it exists — you will have seen a blue link before you started editing the 'List of rides'), insert this: Archived |
Make sure you have saved all three pages, and take a good look at the results.
Unarchive a ride location
If a ride location is being reactivated:
1) | Cut & paste the location's ride line from the 'Archived ride locations' (while in its Edit window [tab 'Edit']) into the Edit window [tab 'Edit'] of the 'List of rides', at the proper spot (alphabetically by location). Set the newly planned ride date (day of the month without leading zero + blank + first 3 characters of the month in English + blank + 4 digits year) and change the «Ride status tab» according to how far the organizing already got, to one of these: |
* Muenster (Münster) keep e.g. province, state: d MMM yyyy 27 Jun 2009
* Muenster (Münster) keep e.g. province, state: d MMM yyyy 27 Jun 2009
2) | There above, remove the link to the 'ride location page' from behind the word 'Archived:'. If there remains no other archived location, simply remove that entire 'Archived:' line. |
3) | From the very top of the Edit window [tab 'Edit'] of the 'ride location page' being reactivated, remove this: Archived In case that page did not yet exist (you will have seen a red link before you started editing the 'Archived ride locations'), create that page (see examples by active other locations, preferably in the same country). |
Make sure you have saved all three pages, and take a good look at the results.
