Hi Nick,<br/>

Hi Nick,<br/>
Please delete Brussels 2009 Planning Art Mobilization. There were and are no links to it. Unlike such page for 2007, it only contains links to an image file and to its twin on another server. I pasted the latter url into the image file, so no information gets lost. Thanks,<br/>

Hi again Nick,<br/>

:Part of your outburst: "As to why I haven't replied to your lengthy messages, well, to be frank, life is short and you haven't exactly enamoured yourself to me. I do not accept your disrespectful behaviour for not having jumped to your invitation to communicate by external means. I appreciated your suggestion but have my own reasons for not having discussions over the phone or instant messaging. Working at a wiki does not oblige to give up one's privacy. And their disadvantage of not being able to show what one means, can cause as much a waiste of time by misunderstandings or futile lengthy explanations, as discussion pages on a wiki. Without a chance of someone coming to the resque. There are no results to show others at latter occasions, it all has to be repeated. The other means you suggested, e-mail, offers no advantage at all in saving time.<br/>

I appreciated your suggestion but have my own reasons for not having discussions over the phone or instant messaging. Working at a wiki does not oblige to give up one's privacy - which I do not confound with anonymity. And their disadvantage of not being able to show what one means, can cause as much a waiste of time by misunderstandings or futile lengthy explanations, as discussion pages on a wiki. Without a chance of someone coming to the resque. Problems, and certainly opposed views, seem to find their way to later editors. There are no results to show them at much later occasions, it all has to be repeated. The other means you suggested, e-mail, offers no advantage at all in saving time.<br/>

I prefer to have discussions about a wiki on that wiki, where other editors and readers have access to it, and where it grows a history for later referencing. Readers and especially coeditors can be very susceptible in detecting inner groups, and then tend to distrust their opponent and suspect anyone that might belong to an only partially seen group of conniving. Though there might be pragmatic reasons for occasional phone calls, deontologically it is not the best method for a wiki, in particular with only a few regulars: It keeps that group small. You do not have to agree, but I expect you to respect my views about how I should behave on a wiki. And to cooperate at the WNBR wiki for the best interest to its public. It's getting very late for me, so forgive me for being rather blunt. Kind regards.<br/>SomeHuman 2010-02-28 23:18 (GMT)

P.S.: There are more problems with extra-wiki communications. You indicated that Marte and you have been discussing my work. Usually the person annoyed by a problem calls the other one. In a private communication that party usually agrees quickly on in verbal conversations so common "isn't it"s. Often already without having had a good look on the wiki for the topic at hand. Even if one comes to a slightly different view, it's then difficult to come back on the politely answered "Sure" to one-sided information.<br/>
 +
And then one does not want to get involved in a discussion on the wiki. Marte has been editing in pages that I had modified, he never reverted any part, no edit comment critisized what was going on, he remained invisible at discussion pages. Too busy, a coincidence, or to be expected after private talks? He might agree mostly with you, or mostly with me, but is almost bound to keep out of it. Which probably keeps us from having a third opinion, and in any case from knowing an assumedly unbiased opinion. With only one opponent constantly there, it is unlikely to get a sufficiently open mind to the latter's views. Productive communications?<br/>

: Thanks for alerting me to this, and thanks for reverting Alison's edits. There is some controversy about the Black Rock City "WNBR". Burning Man isn't a very environmentally-friendly event (think of all the petrol it takes to get there, and the essential resources – eg: water! – that have to be transported in). There's also been some explicit sexual activity at the WNBR event there. However, this is no excuse to vandalise the wiki. – Nsayers 22:08, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Brussels redirects – request corrective moves
 +

 +
Hi Nick,
 +

 +
At 16:21, 17 May 2009 User:Léa moved 'Talk:Brussels' to 'Talk:Brussels 2008'
 +

 +
That ridiculous move still causes that any attempt to 'talk' about 'Brussels', gets redirected onto 'Talk:Brussels 2008
 +

 +
* There is still earlier but [very fortunately] no more recent history for Talk:Brussels 2008
 +
* There is no link to Talk:Brussels 2008 (except of course the redirect Talk:Brussels)
 +
* There is no link to Talk:Brussels
 +

 +
: Done. Talk:Brussels 2008 moved back to Talk:Brussels, and redirect removed. – Nsayers 22:42, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
 +

 +

 +
At 16:23, 17 May 2009 User:Léa moved 'Brussels 2008' to 'Brussels'
 +

 +
* There is no earlier or more recent history for Brussels 2008, just the move.
 +
* There are of course, about 30 pages that link to Brussels (a valid article)
 +
* There is no link to Brussels 2008 (redirect page)
 +

 +
: Done. Brussels 2008 deleted. – Nsayers 23:01, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
 +

 +

 +
So the Brussels 2008 is a redirect to Brussels of which the talk page redirects to that of Brussels 2008. Crazy.
 +

 +
Brussels apparently unbroken history, shows these minor edits:
 +

 +
* At 16:21, 17 May 2009 Léa (Talk | contribs) m (Brussels moved to Brussels 2008) (undo) [I did not see another trace of this, only the above move of its Talk]
 +
* At 16:23, 17 May 2009 Léa (Talk | contribs) m (Brussels 2008 moved to Brussels) (undo) [as I mentioned above]
 +

 +
Perhaps it helps you to understand what may have been going on (perhaps some partial repairs that I don't see), and how to handle it.
 +

 +
Anyway, the Talk:Brussels 2008 with its history needs to become that of Talk:Brussels (Definitely NOT that of Talk:Brussels 2008 history: all discussion pages for 'Brussels 200# history' are red link blanks: all discussions must remain with the original page Brussels even when elements from that original article are copy-or-cut/pasted, never moved, into a newly created 'Brussels 20## history' so as to allow preparing the main page for the next ride.)
 +

 +
If you can manage that while maintaining the Brussels article and its history, thereafter the Brussels 2008 is best deleted (article, talk and their histories). To keep things neat, I refrained from wiki-linking to these from this request message.
 +

 +
Apparently about a year earlier, according to the earliest available edit of 12:24 [05:24 (PDT)], 2 July 2007 currently on Talk:Brussels 2008, User:Psi36 had spotted a few other peculiar moves, for "everything" of 2007.
 +

 +
Indeed, the history of the Brussels article does not go back beyond 20:24, 10 June 2007. I assume its earlier history to be unrecoverable. Please, be sure not to cause such to happen again. I would rather lose the short history of the Brussels 2008 Talk and copy/paste the latter with a clarifying note in the Brussels Talk.

: There is older history, going back to 6 February 2006, here. Does that answer all the questions you've asked? There are, as far as I'm concerned, further issues to be dealt with for Brussels and other big/multilingual rides about sub-page allocation and alternative language translations – see your talk page. – Nsayers 23:01, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

::Thanks Nick. This mess appears pretty well handled. Edit conflict. I had prepared: I guess we'll have to live without 'Brussels' versions before 10 June 2007: I couldn't find any page that might have inherited its edit history. Is there e.g. a deletion log that goes back that far? - but will have a look at your link. With the redirect sorted out, the Brussels comment will go where it belongs, as you suggested: on its Talk. Don't get you hopes up though.<br/>

Why did you disregard this note I specifically left for you? http://wiki.worldnakedbikeride.org/index.php?title=Lexington#A_Note_to_Wiki_Editors

Amsterdam or Utrecht in 2009

I saw that you changed Utrecht to "assumed to repeat" in 2009. Why? And why did you do so without contacting the Dutch organiser of 2008 (me)?

Shortly after the 2008 ride in Utrecht I already changed Amsterdam to "assumed to ride" with the new date, 6 june 2009. Originally we had planned the 2008 WNBR in Amsterdam and I had already made some preparations (route etc.) and some publicity, but because of the main manifestation of the action for a good climate-protection law at the same day in Utrecht, we moved to Utrecht. I think there will be no serious dispute that the Dutch WNBR 2009 will be in Amsterdam -if so, things may change and that is the reason that I did not put "committed to ride" at that place- and while in Utrecht only a small group (between 25 and 30 paricipaters) turned up from all over the Netherlands, there is no use in organizing 2 WNBR's in the Netherlands, especially not in two locations so near to each other. – Ernic 19:27, 7 August 2008

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware of the full history of the rides in Amsterdam and Utrecht, and thanks for putting it right again. I was confused because the Utrecht ride seemed to have been a success so I presumed it would happen again there in 2009. I take your point about not consulting you about this, but I haven't got the time to consult other users over every change I make. The majority of users are inactive or don't respond on their Talk pages, and I don't have other organisers' email addresses. – Nsayers 02:24, 8 August 2008 (PDT)

There is only one Newcastle in the WNBR

Please desist from making uninvited changes to the Wiki Newcastle page. Marte 17:54, 7 Jul 2006

It's a wiki. People make changes, uninvited. That's how it works. I added a disambiguation page to save future confusion between the two large cities on Earth that are called Newcastle. --Nsayers 11:04, 7 Jul 2006 (PDT)

Thanks for contributing

Nsayers,

Thank you for your contributions to WNBR Wiki. Your work has been invaluable to the success of this ride internationally. Have a good day. D 11:06, 15 Mar 2006 (PST)

Use of your planning notes

Nsayers, can we use your planning notes as a template for other cities to use as well? They are very well written. Thank you for your consideration. D 13:29, 20 Mar 2006 (PST)

No worries. Go for it! It's a wiki, after all. ;-) Nsayers 13:44, 20 Mar 2006 (PST)

Pretoria

Hi Nick, Pretoria was not a WNBR event, it was not on public lands. I had a discussion about this with the ride organizors, but there don't want to adhere to WNBR policy. I'm removing the link from the list of rides. Cheers, D 10:50, 27 Mar 2006 (PST)

Request for involvement in Wikipedia naming convention dispute

Hi, I'd like to invite you to get involved in establishing consensus in discussions concerning naming conventions for social nudity topics.

Please join in this community discussion regarding the name of Wikipedia:Portal:Clothes free.

Participate here: Wikipedia:Portal_talk:Clothes_free#Votes

Please also join in the discussion about what to name an article dealing with Wikipedia:social nudity. I believe the the latter term is a better term to use than naturism or nudism as it is more Wikipedia:WP:NPOV and is in use currently. Formerly the article was titled Wikipedia:Clothes free movement.

Participate here: Wikipedia:Talk:Naturism#Move_to_Social_nudity

Cheers,

D 13:27, 15 Apr 2006 (PDT)

Wow! Amazing Work!

Thank you so much for all your thousands of edits on WNBR Wiki. You are totally amazing. D 19:18, 25 Apr 2006 (PDT)

Thanks again!

Thanks again for all of your recent work on this wiki. Its hard to even keep track of it all. Your work is invaluable. Cheers, D 11:41, 8 Jul 2006 (PDT)

Thank-you not

Please do not edit my comments left on a discussion page. It is disrespectful to place words into someone's quote. I realize you only wished to make the links work in the single-minded way you desired. I will not get into a editing war with you. You deleted a page I took time to build, and you replaced all the links to it. In doing so, you made the Saint Louis entry something many people can no longer view from their work place (NSFW). Of course, to you, your way is best, and I see no point in changing it back just to have you change it again. Thank for for doing this without a single discussion about why someone might have wanted to do what they did. It is better to just change and quote the almighty wiki adage of not submitting things you do not want edited mercilessly. Respect is something that sane people never seek to find. I doubt I will add more photos with this as the status quo. --Photo212grapher 15:42, 3 August 2008 (PDT)

Sorry to have caused offence, and thanks for adding your photos to the wiki in an attractive and well-categorised manner. I was just house cleaning and amalgamating surplus content. Having unnecessary sub-pages for rides increases the amount of maintenance work, especially as there are only about three of us who actively work on the wiki. It's probably better to post photos of the ride to our Flickr group where they can be more easily grouped and tracked. The ones you've posted aren't particularly NSFW, imho! Feel free to continue this discussion off-wiki: mail A T nicksayers D 0 T com --Nsayers 04:05, 4 August 2008 (PDT)
Hopefully I've just made a change that you'll be happy with. I've set up a proper Saint Louis photos page from the 2008 one you created. Let me know if this is alright. --Nsayers 04:18, 4 August 2008 (PDT)
You must work at a different place than 99% of the rest of the workforce. A visible penis is going to be NSFW everywhere I know, and the painted breasts are likely to be NSFW in half of the workplaces. I feel discussions are the true spirit of Wiki, and you did offend me off by not have one. Unilateral changes are within policy, but then again walking up to strangers on the street and saying, "I don't like your hairdo" is within your rights, too. Neither are consider polite.
The Wiki from where I admin, we tend to do things different. We would leave the users' named pages as is, and place a #REDIRECT under the "proper" page. Our policy is to edit as little as possible. The less we are seen, the more it is the user's wiki. --Photo212grapher 05:54, 4 August 2008 (PDT)
Oops, yes, I forgot about that photo with the naked breasts and penis! Luckily I work from home so don't have much of a NSFW problem, but I do take your point. Given your comments, I'll try to consult about changes I make in future but I often don't have the time. I just try and maintain naming conventions, page consistency etc across the wiki, which is why I moved your page. Out of interest, what is the other wiki you admin for? – Nsayers 02:32, 8 August 2008 (PDT)

I cleaned the last few up with my Sysop power! (It sounds like a detergent for mops). How about making Eric Baas an admin or Sysop? Which ever gives him enough power to deal with the spam on his own because I am sure it takes as much effort to delete the contents of pages as deleting the pages. --Marte Kinder 12:52, 11 July 2009 (PDT)

Done! Erik Baas, you are now a sysop! Use your new powers wisely, and may the Force be with you. --Nsayers 14:43, 12 July 2009 (PDT)
Thank you very much ! :-) - Erik Baas 15:07, 12 July 2009 (PDT)

List of rides

Nick, I hope you don't mind my having moved this section's content and the connected section on my talk page to the page's Discussion page, there now integrated, as our discussion is in particular relevant for that single page and may concern its other editors and readers as well.
SomeHuman 2010-01-04 08:12 (GMT)

In case you would have the admin powers to edit modification comments shown for this wiki's History lists, I'm afraid I misspelled your name (with capital S) and it now appears twice in red for my edit of 06:02, 4 January 2010 on the Revision_history of "List_of_rides". Surely you're not gone from this wiki! Sorry about that.
SomeHuman 2010-01-04 09:04 (GMT)

My mistake: I had unthoughtfully continued our discussion here. I moved that under your input on the page's Discussion page with my latest reply.

Albuquerque/Santa Fe

Hi Nick.
Yesterday, User:Gonaked further edited Albuquerque and then apparently wanted to change the title. Instead of a 'move' that would have maintained the edit history, the user simply created a new page Albuquerque/Santa_Fe. Though one might simply delete the old page, perhaps it would be best to copy the current content from the new into the old page and save the latter with edit comment Integrating User:Gonaked's edits of 18 Feb 2010 2:13-2:19 from unduly created page, delete the new one (at which only Gonaked saved his edits within 6 minutes following those on the old page), and move the old page to the new name.
SomeHuman 2010-02-19 07:52-08:01 (GMT)

Done. Nsayers 23:46, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
Actually, you did better. The Albuquerque and (especially with Marta's line for Santa Fe now on the List of rides) also Santa_Fe redirects are both needed.

Delete request Brussels obsolete 2009 sub file

Hi Nick,
Please delete Brussels 2009 Planning Art Mobilization. There were and are no links to it. Unlike such page for 2007, it only contains links to an image file and to its twin on another server. I pasted the latter url into the image file, so no information gets lost. I dropped a note for the creator of the page to delete - who also designed the image. Thanks,

Wiki communication

Hi again Nick,

Part of your outburst: "As to why I haven't replied to your lengthy messages, well, to be frank, life is short and you haven't exactly enamoured yourself to me. I don't get paid for doing this and there are only a few really active editors on this wiki [...<some complex matters>...] I've given you my contact details and asked to discuss these complex matters with you via telephone, email, IM etc, but you ignored this attempt to communicate in these other, more productive, ways. In short, be nice and I'll be nice in return."

I do not accept your disrespectful behaviour for not having jumped to your invitation to communicate by external means. I appreciated your suggestion but have my own reasons for not having discussions over the phone or instant messaging. The other means you suggested, e-mail, offers no advantage at all in saving time.
And as replied before - thus not "ignored": "I prefer keeping a discussion in writing (not enough room in my memory) for later purposes, and entirely open for others"
I prefer to have discussions about a wiki on that wiki, where other editors and readers have access to it, and where it grows a history for later referencing. Readers and especially coeditors can be very susceptible in detecting inner groups, and then tend to distrust their opponent and suspect anyone that might belong to an only partially seen group, of conniving. Kind regards.
SomeHuman 2010-02-28 23:18-23:52 (GMT)
P.S.: There are more problems with extra-wiki communications. You indicated that Marte and you have been discussing my work. Usually the person annoyed by a problem calls the other one. In a private communication that party usually agrees quickly on in verbal conversations so common "isn't it"s. Often already without having had a good look on the wiki for the topic at hand. Even if one comes to a slightly different view, it's then difficult to come back on the politely answered "Sure" to one-sided information.
Productive communications?

Black Rock City deletions by User:Alison

Oh Nick, keep an eye on Alison and Black Rock City. I reverted the new user's both edits: [1] - [2].
SomeHuman 2010-03-01 01:04 (GMT)

Thanks for alerting me to this, and thanks for reverting Alison's edits.

Hi Nick,

At 16:21, 17 May 2009 User:Léa moved 'Talk:Brussels' to 'Talk:Brussels 2008'

That ridiculous move still causes that any attempt to 'talk' about 'Brussels', gets redirected onto 'Talk:Brussels 2008'

Done. Talk:Brussels 2008 moved back to Talk:Brussels, and redirect removed. – Nsayers 22:42, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

At 16:23, 17 May 2009 User:Léa moved 'Brussels 2008' to 'Brussels'

 • There is no earlier or more recent history for Brussels 2008, just the move.
 • There are of course, about 30 pages that link to Brussels (a valid article)
 • There is no link to Brussels 2008 (redirect page)
Done. Brussels 2008 deleted. – Nsayers 23:01, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

So the Brussels 2008 is a redirect to Brussels of which the talk page redirects to that of Brussels 2008. Crazy.

Brussels apparently unbroken history, shows these minor edits:

 • At 16:21, 17 May 2009 Léa (Talk | contribs) m (Brussels moved to Brussels 2008) (undo) [I did not see another trace of this, only the above move of its Talk]
 • At 16:23, 17 May 2009 Léa (Talk | contribs) m (Brussels 2008 moved to Brussels) (undo) [as I mentioned above]

Perhaps it helps you to understand what may have been going on (perhaps some partial repairs that I don't see), and how to handle it.

If you can manage that while maintaining the Brussels article and its history, thereafter the Brussels 2008 is best deleted (article, talk and their histories). To keep things neat, I refrained from wiki-linking to these from this request message.

Apparently about a year earlier, according to the earliest available edit of 12:24 [05:24 (PDT)], 2 July 2007 currently on Talk:Brussels 2008, User:Psi36 had spotted a few other peculiar moves, for "everything" of 2007.

SomeHuman 2010-03-01 18:15-18:59

There is older history, going back to 6 February 2006, here. Does that answer all the questions you've asked? There are, as far as I'm concerned, further issues to be dealt with for Brussels and other big/multilingual rides about sub-page allocation and alternative language translations – see your talk page. – Nsayers 23:01, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
Thanks Nick. Don't get you hopes up though.

Very temporary comment

Hi Nick. I answered your User_talk:SomeHuman#Multilingual_solutions suggestion.
Allow me to remind you of #Delete request Brussels obsolete 2009 sub file, I realize that you had many things to attend to at the time.
Please, be as kind as to remove this comment from your talk page after having had a look (with or without reaction) at both topics.

Trying to prevent creation of useless accounts...

I added this text:

N.B.: Creating an account does not give you access to more or better pictures of naked people.

to the "logon" and "create account" screens. Do you agree, and is the syntax correct ? ;-) - Erik Baas 16:14, 12 June 2011 (PDT)

Thanks. Good idea. Wording is fine. I haven't been involved in the wiki for a while but last time I looked there were still a lot of spam accounts being set up and spam pages being added. Is that still going on? Are you still manually deleteing them? — Nsayers 03:05, 7 November 2011 (PST)
There are much less spam accounts created, and the number of spam pages is even lower: 10 in september, 9 in october, 5 in november (so far). I would say we have it under control. I'll try to find some time to update MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist once again, that should make some more difference. :-) - Erik Baas 16:10, 8 November 2011 (PST)

Error Creating Thumbnail

Hi Nick, Do you know why I get an error message and thumbnail will not display for this file? http://wiki.worldnakedbikeride.org/index.php?title=File:Perth_2012.JPG --Marte Kinder 02:08, 6 November 2011 (PST)

It's not just about the new uploads, it also happens when a new thumbnail from an older file of a different size is requested. For example:
250px, as used on Amsterdam
251px, until now not used on any page
I don't know what to do about it... :-( - Erik Baas 16:01, 8 November 2011 (PST)
... but someone has got to do something about it... - Erik Baas 14:09, 6 January 2012 (PST)

Thanks from Newcastle Gateshead

Not sure who you are,or if this is the best way to attempt to contact you, but I wanted to say thanks for tidying up the WNBR page for Newcastle Gateshead this week - appreciated...I'm new to wiki and I tried to keep the format the same. but very appreciative of tidying up after me!! – Mark_Hurrell 12:55, 6 November 2015‎

My (geeky) pleasure. I'm one of the organisers (+founder) of the Brighton ride. Happy to help. – Nsayers (talk) 07:55, 6 November 2015 (PST)

Wiki broken

Hi. Saving a new link requires filling in a 'captcha', which is no longer working. It gives the message:

Please fix it.
