Have been involved with WNBR a number of years. Took part in the Bristol ones. Had to stop, due to a Brain Injury. Have now moved to Waterlooville, just outside Portsmouth. Am working with Ken Neville, (the organiser), I am currently his deputy. Unfortunately due to my job, I cannot spend as much time as I would like on this. Due to paralysis in one of my legs, I am no longer able to cycle, but I now have an electric powered cycle. I have cycled a number of years and a few years ago could reach speeds of over 40mph. I was once stopped by the police for speeding, and coming off a motorway slip road. They told me I should not be cycling on a motorway and coming off it, I should have reduced my speed to 30mph. They could not do anything else, as who would believe their report that they had to stop a cyclist for speeding. The are a few reasons why became involved in WNBR Most vehicle drivers are of the opinion that cyclist are an inconvenience and some drivers think we should not ride on the roads are we do not pay road tax. Children cycling from schools have to be careful due to vehicle drivers not taking notice when they are cycling, there have been a few near misses. I am aware of some occasions where children cycling have been hit by cars. One such was when a child was knocked off his bike and sustained a broken leg, so was taken to hospital. The woman driver who hit him had just picked up her son from the school, so should have know better. Luckily she was charged with dangerous driving. A lot of older vehicles give out too much dangerous exhaust. Would the person driving it, put their head over a coal fire and breath in the smoke, I think not, so why should cyclist have to. Luckily with more electric and hybrid vehicles, pollution from them is less of an issue, but it has not solved the problem. How is the vast amount of electricity generated? It is burning fossil fuels, so despite the use of electric and hybrid powered vehicles, pollution is still produced by power stations. The UK Government what the UK to be carbon neutral by 2050, what are they going to replace the fossil fuel power stations with, nuclear? A nuclear power station has only a limited life span, and has to be sealed for centuries. What are we going to have in a few years time? Large concrete structures all around the country, where old nuclear power stations were. Cycling provides health benefits and is known to increase a persons lifespan, if they cycle enough. I am a Naturist, so believe people have the wrong idea about nudity. We are not born wearing clothes, we do not shower or bath wear clothes. When naked, you are you, and people do not judge you by the clothes you wear. Rich and poor people look the same, when they are naked and away from the trapping of normal life, so there is nothing that shows if they are rich or poor. If someone was driving a vehicle when it was light and ahead of them were two cyclists. One of them was wearing high vis and the other was completely naked. Who would the driver notice? The naked one of course.
