Next year's York ride is going to take place at 6pm on Friday 6 June 2008 (not on Saturday when most other Northern Hemisphere rides are taking place).  Assemble at 6pm in Memorial Gardens (off Leeman Road, nearby the Railway Station).  The departure time is 6.00pm prompt so aim to get to the assembly point at or before 5:30pm.

The ride will start at Memorial Gardens and end on the opposite bank of the Ouse at the Museum Gardens (which requires a short period of travelling by foot, pushing the bike). The total distance is about 5 miles of easy cycling.

Here is a downloadable map of the [http://wiki.worldnakedbikeride.org/images/b/b1/York-2007-route-map.pdf 2007 route].  This was the updated route map as at 3 June 2007 following some last minute discussions with the local police and City Council.  The 2007 route originally proposed was different from the 2006 one, taking in Bootham Bar, Fossgate and Piccadilly.  The authorities asked us to withdraw some of the changes on grounds of safety and to minimise disruption to traffic (as if we're not traffic ourselves!). We did have a great ride down Micklegate though.

'''Advantages of the York route:''' The York route is mostly straightforward with minimal car traffic. It starts close to the rail and bus stations, and there are Park & Ride facilities a short cycle distance from the start. The route passes various landmarks of York including the Minster, historic bridges, pedestrianised medieval streets, Cliffords Tower, the banks of the River Ouse, the Millennium cycle bridge, a section of National Cycle Route 65 and ends up in the beautiful riverside Museum Gardens.

==Bike Hire==
+
==Route and schedule==
Bikes can be hired from several places in York, but there are three very convenient hire options which previous riders recommend are:

[http://www.bobtrottercycles.com Bob Trotter Cycles].  Bob Trotter Cycles is a city centre cycle hire store. A half day hire is £10 tel 01904 622868. Tandems are also available for hire. The street address is 13-15 Lord Mayors Walk, York YO31 7HB (it's just outside the city walls, a short stroll from York Minster).

'''Advantages of the York route:''' The York route is mostly flat. It runs on both streets and traffic-free paths. There are cycle-hire facilities a short cycle distance from the start. The route passes various landmarks of York including the Minster, historic Bars (city gates), and the iconic Clifford's Tower. It goes down medieval cobbled streets, traverses bridges both ancient and new, and glides along the banks of the scenic River Ouse, usually to the accompaniment of some great music. Because of the surfaces we discourage runners, e-scooters and skaters as it is difficult for them to keep up, so bikes, trikes, tandems, hand-cycles and experienced unicyclists only please!

[http://www.yorkbikerental.co.uk/ York Bike Rental] which drops off the bike at a location of your choice, and provides everything you need to go. A half-day folding bike is just £10.  Use 07939 254 863 or info[at]yorkbikerental.co.uk for more info.

[http://www.yha.org.uk/activities/budgie-bike-hire Budgie Bikes] is situated conveniently on Platform One at York Rail Station (you book through Europcar York).  Budgie supports the YHA network with hire bikes, and their prices are as little as £1.50 an hour (4 hour minimum charge) or £9.50 per day.  No pre-booking is required.  They have plenty of bikes.  The bike's are actually collected and returned via the Station Left Luggage facility which is open until 8.30pm on Friday night. For more info, contact the York YHA at 0870 770 6102 or York Europcar at 01904 656161 or Budgie Transport at 0152 438 9410

== Advice for Riders ==
Here is the [http://wiki.worldnakedbikeride.org/images/9/9d/York-2007-flyer.pdf downloadable leaflet] used to promote last year's ride.  This was printed in bulk, but anyone was free to make as many copies as they wished. For this year's ride we will once again need to get as many leaflets distributed as possible. We are looking for a place where we could leave the leaflets for people to collect them (with a person or business in York). Preferably the leaflets could be collected in the evening between 4-8pm. Any volunteers? If you know of a business that might spring for this, please ask them and then get in touch with Jesse at 07814 587361 or write to yorkshire [at] worldnakedbikeride.org (replace the "at" by @ and remove square brackets).

We also had an '''A4 POSTER''' advertising the ride. This can be downloaded  [http://wiki.worldnakedbikeride.org/index.php?title=Image:WNBR-York_07_A4_Poster.pdf here].   It wass handy for posting on notice boards or as an additional item to offer when distributing the flyers to shops, businesses, colleges, community groups and so on.  Try copying it onto yellow or light-green paper for a more eye-catching effect.
+
This is common-sense practical advice about preparing for and being safe on the ride. Lot of useful tips, suggestions and links to further information. It's updated every year to reflect changing needs.  The 2016 version of the Advice is still available and can be consulted '''[http://wiki.worldnakedbikeride.org/images/9/93/York_WNBR_Advice_for_Riders_2016.pdf here].'''  We'll post the new version in this section when it's ready.

==York WNBR Planning Collective==

==Press and Publicity==
The York Planning Collective was relaunched in April 2007.  We are a group of cyclists working together in a co-operative way to a single end.  Some of us are based in York itself, some live in the surrounding towns and villages.

Last year the Ride was coordinated by someone who lives outside York, but in the future it would be useful to have someone local acting as the main ride coordinator. Ideally we'd have two people collaborating as coordinators – one person serving as a backup in case the main person in the role falls ill.
+
We will have a Press Release available soon.

'''Here's what the coordinator would do:'''

* answer people's questions with care and consideration

* keep track of who is doing what, and how far through things people are

* deal with problems and follow the discussions at the national level

* provide email updates to let people know what's going on

* point out where and when help is needed

* act as a contact point for general enquiries (email and mobile phone)

* maintain contact information (and keep it secure)

'''Additional responsibilities that the coordinator could have if they wanted:'''
+
'''2018 FLYER''' (available soon!)
* arrange meetings, compile agendas, provide minutes

* ensure that the collective remains non-hierarchical but organised

* moderate an email list for York ride planning

Date: Saturday 10 June 2023.
Time: 4.15pm prompt
Location: Assembly/departure point: 50 metres south of Millennium Bridge on the Fulford (east) side of the river. As always, everyone is encouraged to go "as bare as they dare" and please don't forget to affix/paint signs on your bike and/or body to indicate the reason why you are riding.

Route and schedule

Advantages of the York route: The York route is mostly flat.

Ride schedule

This is the ride schedule for 2023.

3.00 pm Gathering of riders at Millennium Bridge. Time to have some refreshments, decorate your bike, paint your slogans. Bodypainting gazebo may be available, if we find a volunteer to organise that.

4.15 pm Departure from Millennium Bridge. We will cross the bridge and stop briefly at 'Ruby's Crossroads' to mark the killing of Ruby Milnes, a 17 year old cyclist on a cycle track, run over by a lorry delivering to the racecourse, in 2008. Our route takes us past York Minster and Clifford's Tower where there will be a photo opportunity.

Advice for Riders

This is common-sense practical advice about preparing for and being safe on the ride. Lot of useful tips, suggestions and links to further information. It's updated every year to reflect changing needs. The 2016 version of the Advice is still available and can be consulted here. We'll post the new version in this section when it's ready.

Press and Publicity

We will have a Press Release available soon.

2018 FLYER (available soon!)

The 2017 York flyer can still be downloaded by clicking on the link below. The flyer is designed to be printed double-sided in A5 format, although you can print the front as an A4 poster if you wish.

York WNBR 2017 A5 Flyer (double-sided)

Please try and place any publicity materials in a prominent position in your local community centre, college, bike shop etc and circulate amongst your cycling friends and fellow activists. Laminated versions can even be displayed at key locations outside, e.g. attached to lamp-posts along cycle paths. With a little ingenuity flyers can also be attached to bikes. When organising leaflet distribution we are often on the look-out for a place where we can leave flyers for people to collect (with a person or business in York perhaps). If you know of a business that might be up for this, please write to york [at] wbnr [dot] org [dot] uk

If you would like to donate some art-work for future York WNBR events, please get in touch.

Bike hire

Bikes can be hired from the following places:

York Ride Planning

The York Planning Group (formerly known as the Collective) is a small group of local cyclists working together in a co-operative way to a single end. Currently the organisers are Anna Semlyen and John Cossham. We always need more volunteers to get involved - that could be YOU!

Here's what the Planning Group co-ordinator does:

  • answers people's questions with care and consideration
  • keeps track of who is doing what, and how far through things people are
  • deals with problems and follow the discussions at the national level
  • provides email updates to let people know what's going on
  • points out where and when help is needed
  • acts as a contact point for general enquiries (email and mobile phone)
  • maintains contact information (and keeps it secure)

Additional responsibilities for the coordinator or one of the members:

  • arranges meetings, compile agendas, provide minutes
  • ensures that the group remains non-hierarchical but organised
  • moderates an email list for York ride planning

To get in touch with the Planning Group, please write to York [at] wnbr [dot] org [dot] uk.
