A ride almost happened in York in June 2005.

If you would like to help co-ordinate a 10 June 2006 Naked Ride in York please contact Jesse (UK rides coordinator) on 07814 587361.

Kick start a York ride

Role of York co-ordinator: ideally done by two people collaborating - one person serving as a backup in case the main person in the role falls ill.

  • arranges meetings, compiles agendas, provides minutes.
  • keeps track of who is doing what, and how far through things people are.
  • deals with problems and follows the discussions at the national level.
  • provides e-mail updates to let people know what is going on.
  • points out where and when help is needed.
  • acts as a contact point for general enquiries (e-mail and mobile phone).
  • maintains contact information (and keeps it secure).
  • oversees moderation on the York e-mail list.
  • answers people's questions with care and consideration.
  • ensures that the collective remains non-hierarchical but organised.

Route proposed for York

Here is a route proposal put forward by a former York resident (who will not be available to participate in the ride). It may form the route for 2006.

The proposed York ride would need to start at War Memorial Gardens at 5pm (to allow cycle travel in pedestrianised streets) and ends at the Museum Gardens (which requires a short period of travelling by foot, pushing the bike).

Advantages of the route: The proposed York ride is mostly straightforward with minimal car traffic. It starts close to the Rail and Bus stations, and there is a Park and Ride parking a short cycle distance from the start of the route. The route passes various distinct features of York, including the York Cathedral, historic bridges, pedestrianised medieval streets, Shambles, the Ouse River bankside, Cliffords Tower, the Millenium cycle bridge, National Cycle route 65 and the beautful riverside Museum Gardens.
