A new ride! Southampton will join the list of UK cities hosting WNBR in 2007! Riders keen to participate should contact southampton [at] bikenaked.org for information or join the wnbr-southampton Yahoo group. We will have WNBR stalls at Environmental Rock at The Hobbit pub in Bevois Valley Road on April 28th, and during the Southampton University Environment & Ethics Week on April 25th at the University Highfield campus. This is a perfect opportunity to find out more about the ride and to get involved!

It helps to get an idea of numbers if you register your intent to participate in this ride by filling in the Registration form at the main World Naked Bike Ride site.

About the 2007 Ride

Assembly Point

We will assemble at 6pm at the north-east end of Southampton Common at a location to be confirmed. There will be an opportunity for body-painting and decorating of bikes. At 6.30pm we'll hit the streets of Southampton on our beautiful bikes. If you have roller blades, skateboards or other (non-carbon emitting) wheels feel free to use them. The ride will take about an hour most likely.

Dress Code

Come as bare as you dare. Nudity makes a great statement, but if you're more comfortable in a little clothing, that's fine too. In previous years, riders have worn shorts, bras, swimwear, body paint, wigs, sunglasses etc. Most wear footwear and bring bags to carry clothes. Body painting and adornment, customised bikes and other creative expression are all strongly encouraged.

Route

The route is expected to take in two spectacular crossings of the River Itchen, after which we will ride past historic Town Quay and through the City Centre returning up the magnificent Avenue to our start location.

Public Transport

The start location is a 3 mile ride from Southampton Parkway railway station, which is a main stop on the London Waterloo to Bournemouth and Poole line. Local stations at Swaythling and St Denys are closer still.

Planning

There is much planning still to do and assistance would be appreciated! Please get in touch via southampton [at] bikenaked.org if you plan to ride or if you are able to help.
