'''2010 Fig Leif 5K & more. . .''' Saturday, June 12th: This includes the second bike ride of the day, the "Fig Leif Naked Run/Ride" in Forest Park at 7:30pm. We will be hosting a 10K off road naked bike ride and 5k run/walk starting at the paved section of Lief Erickson Drive (400 Yards beyong the gate at the end of NW Thurman). Bring your used running shoes to donate. This is the 5th annual 5K run, and the second off-road addition to the Pedalpalloza events with the Naked Off-Road Adventure on Lief Erickson Drive through Forest Park.  Help Show your support and use it as a warm-up for the mid-night ride. Start is 7:30pm at the porta potty area on the paved section of Leif Erickson.  Show up a little before to get situated.  We will watch your stuff while you ride naked. Nice and secure so you will not be alone naked at the end of the event.   Lot's of fun. Feel like a REAL Portlander!

We have counted over 10,000 riders in years past, and forecast this year's ride to be between 8,000-10,000 participants.

Portland actually has '''three''' naked rides and a naked run this day. See the [http://www.shift2bikes.org/cal/viewpp2009.php?#June13 Pedalpalooza Calendar] for details and more.

There is no admission fee for the gathering or the ride.  We will have portapotties at the start. We will have uniformed security guards, volunteers wearing sashes, and with a vigilant community, we attempt to create a safe space.  We request that people not take photos in the park, unless they have the consent of the photographed individuals (this is actually a request of anyone no matter where they are!). See the [http://pdxwnbr.org PDX WNBR web page] for further details of this year's event, and [http://www.shift2bikes.org/wiki/pedalpalooza:dance_party:your_first Your First Naked Ride] for a narrative of what a typical Portland-style WNBR is like.

The first naked ride is the "Sunny Nekkid Ride" starting at the Joan of Arc statue at NE 39th and Glisan, and 2pm. This will be about the fourth year for this ride. The attendance varies with the weather; tt has had as many as 100 people, and as few as 20.

This is the Fourth Annual Run, and the first offroad naked ride.  We've added the first off-road addition to the Pedalpalloza events with the Naked Off-Road Adventure on Lief Erickson.  Help Show your support and use it as a warm-up for the mid-night ride just down the hill later.  Lots of fun for a good cause!  Start is 7:30pm at the porta potty area on the paved section of Leif Erickson.  Show up a little before to get situated.  We will watch your stuff while you ride naked.  Nice and secure so you will not be alone naked at the end of the event.  We've done this for a few years now.  Lot's of fun.  Feel like a REAL Portlander!

The big ride, though, starts from and returns to the Pedalpalooza Kickoff Dance Party, which begins at 9 and continues well into the night.  The WNBR itself starts at 11:59pm. This year's location is the old coffee warehouse at 2181 NW Nicolai. This is closer to downtown than last year's site, and there is no big hill between the party and downtown, so it should make for a good ride. We expect around 3000 cyclists this year. There is no admission fee for the party but '''Your Bike Is Your Ticket''' -- you must arrive with your bike (or other human-powered transportation such as a skateboard) to be admitted to the party. You must also be at least 18 years old (and have ID to prove it) to get into the party. Of course, anybody can ride with us since the streets are open to all, but for the party we must enforce the 18+ rule. See the [http://www.shift2bikes.org/wnbr/wnbr.html Pedalpalooza Dance Party Info] page for details of this year's event including the volunteer list, and [http://www.shift2bikes.org/wiki/pedalpalooza:dance_party:your_first Your First Naked Ride] for a narrative of what a typical Portland-style WNBR is like.

Though we anticipated 1200-1500 riders, we actually got around 2000.  I've been told that that's the official police estimate.  It took roughly an hour for the stream of cyclists to pass, and that made some motorists very angry.  (And many thousands of people very happy of course.)  There was one incident in which a driver deliberately crushed a cyclist's bike.

Portland has multiple naked rides (one or more day time rides and the world's largest World Naked Bike Ride on saturday night) and usually someone also organizes a daytime naked run. See the Pedalpalooza Calendar for details on those other events.

The big ride starts from a yet TBA location, and this year will NOT be a loop.

Gathering (and getting psyched and arted up) will begin at 8pm and the ride kicks off at 9pm. The Police will be on hand to block off the parade route and encourage civility and safe interactions between motorists and cyclists, and as always, have the authority to arrest anyone doing something stupid. Don't drink and ride, don't urinate in public, and don't be lewd.

We have counted over 10,000 riders in years past, and forecast this year's ride to be between 8,000-10,000 participants.

See the PDX WNBR web page for further details of this year's event, and Your First Naked Ride for a narrative of what a typical Portland-style WNBR is like.

2013

This year's big ride left from the portland art museum at 10pm on saturday 8 jun, rode through downtown and ended up under the hawthorne bridge on the eastside waterfront. Our camera counted 8,150 riders going past the start point but hundreds did not start from the official start point, so closer to 9-10 thousand folks participated this year. The art museum's exhibits were about bikes and nontraditional body shapes, which dovetailed nicely with some of the WNBR's mission statement of body positive biking, and the museum helped fundraise for the event's expenses and much fun was had by all. As in previous years, the Portland police were instrumental in our safe, unimpeded passage through town.

2012

The ride left the gathering spot at Salmon ave & Water st at 10pm on Saturday 16 Jun (no party, just a safe space for gathering) at 10pm, rode approximately 7 miles, and looped back to to the starting spot. We had a good count - there were approximately 4,200 riders and the ride took slightly less than 45min to pass over the hawthorne bridge from start to finish.

The Portland Police department again cooperated and corked for the ride at major intersections.

2011

The ride left the gathering spot at Salmon ave & Water st at 10pm on Saturday 18 Jun (no party, just a safe space for gathering) at 10pm, rode approximately 7 miles, and looped back to to the starting spot. We had a good count - there were at least 4,000 riders (our video gear stuttered and we're not sure how much we missed - no more than 10%. 4,000 confirmed though). There was an "official" afterparty thrown by Bridgeport brewing, who gave a substantial amount to the Ride organization effort near the ending spot. The ride took about 30 minutes (thanks to police cooperation) to pass the intersection of E Burnside and 14th.

The Portland Police department again cooperated and corked for the ride at major intersections.

2010

The ride left the gathering spot at Salmon ave & Water st at 10pm on Saturday 19 Jun (no party, just a safe space for gathering) at 10pm, rode approximately 7 miles, and looped back to to the starting spot. We had an unknown number of riders--a team attempted to count but got such wildly divergent numbers that we can't really accept any of them credibly. Counts varied from 8,000 to 13,000 but we suspect under 8,000. No major injuries or mishaps occurred on the ride.

The Portland Police department again cooperated and corked for the ride at major intersections.

2009

The ride left the Pedalpalooza Kickoff Dance party at 2181 NW Nicolai Street, sent off by the Last Regiment of Syncopated Drummers and looping on a course that went down burnside, briefly over to the east side, and back up 2nd street. Only about 1/3 of the riders made it to the east side before the ride accidentally looped onto itself and the last 2/3 of the riders did not make it over the bridge to the east side.

Nearly 5000 riders participated (by the fire marshal's estimate), and while there were a few injuries, everyone we're aware of recovered fully. This was the first year the Portland Police officially sanctioned (well...accepted, and permitted) and corked for the ride.

2008

The ride left the Pedalpalpooza Dance Party on Saturday 14 June 2008, 11:59pm, from the Track 7 warehouse at NW 30th and Industrial. The route was long and the pace was fast, which caused problems for some riders. In past years, we often split into multiple groups following different routes, but this year we all rode the same route.

Though we anticipated 1200-1500 riders, we actually got around 2000. I've been told that that's the official police estimate. It took roughly an hour for the stream of cyclists to pass, and that made some motorists very angry. (And many thousands of people very happy of course.) There was one incident in which a driver deliberately crushed a cyclist's bike and his tires were slashed as he was thought to have crushed the cyclist too!

2007

The party was in the Organics To You warehouse at the East end of the Hawthorne bridge. At the party we distributed about 820 wristbands, and nearly everybody went on the ride so we estimate 800 riders -- not counting people who saw us along the way and spontaneously stripped to ride with us.

The party was amazing, though the OLCC wasn't too thrilled with us. The planning in 2008 will need to be much more careful. The ride itself was chaotic as always. No arrests. One injury when a rider hit a pothole at high speed; he was walking the next day... slowly.

2006

Roughly 500 riders left the Pedalpalooza Dance Party at Disjecta (230 East Burnside Street though its moved since then) at 11:59pm for a long looping ride. Many people did multiple loops that night.

2005

The 2005 ride and post-ride party maxed out the generous location donated by Free Geek. We had about 170 riders.

2004

In 2004 the organization City Repair hosted the event and had a healthy turnout.
