The Pre-Ride Fig Leif 5K Run/Walk is at 7:30pm in Forest Park. Top of NW Thurman St Hill, 400 yards past the gate at Leif Erickson Drive. This is the third annual event. A great warm-up for the midnight naked ride. . .a naked run in the park.  It made the evening news last year. Lots of people and lots of fun!

We cruised through residential NE Portland, down the Alberta strip, and through the Mississippi social area before ending underneath the freeway near the bottom of mississippi. There was an official afterparty sponsored by the Portland Mercury and Red Bull. We counted around 9000 riders in the video from this year (which we believe to be within 200 +/- of the total starting count - the camera was placed near the start but after most possible route deviations this year).  It was a positive year for fundraising, press, and neighbor relations. As in previous years, the Portland police were instrumental in our safe, unimpeded passage through town.

This year's big ride left from the portland art museum at 10pm on saturday 8 jun, rode through downtown and ended up under the hawthorne bridge on the eastside waterfront.  Our camera counted 8,150 riders going past the start point but hundreds did not start from the official start point, so closer to 9-10 thousand folks participated this year.  The art museum's exhibits were about bikes and nontraditional body shapes, which dovetailed nicely with some of the WNBR's mission statement of body positive biking, and the museum helped fundraise for the event's expenses and much fun was had by all. As in previous years, the Portland police were instrumental in our safe, unimpeded passage through town.

It's getting harder and harder to find a venue big enough for us.  The ride has been growing by at least 50% each year, and last year's ride had roughly 800 riders (and 850 or so at the party).  This year we need space for 1200-1500 people.  It has been unusually difficult.  Our first choice was a new event space that the fire marshal rated for 600 capacity -- much too small.  Our second choice was also being eyed by a major athletic shoe company which, ironically, dragged its feet and took too much time.  Our third choice was hit by a barge and condemned.  We're now on our fourth choice, the Track 7 warehouse in Northwest Portland, NW 30th and Industrial.

The ride left the gathering spot at Salmon ave & Water st at 10pm on Saturday 18 Jun (no party, just a safe space for gathering) at 10pm, rode approximately 7 miles, and looped back to to the starting spot.  We had a good count - there were at least 4,000 riders (our video gear stuttered and we're not sure how much we missed - no more than 10%.  4,000 confirmed though).  There was an "official" afterparty thrown by Bridgeport brewing, who gave a substantial amount to the Ride organization effort near the ending spot.  The ride took about 30 minutes (thanks to police cooperation) to pass the intersection of E Burnside and 14th.

Brief – please edit: Just returned home (3.30am). Ride was phenomenal! Weather was not too bad (dry around 60<!--60 what? People? Farhenheit?!-->). Dance party before got us warmed up. Participants flooded out. I heard counts over 500 people! Most naked or almost naked, wearing paint and costumes. We rode for about 2.5 hours and made several loops around downtown etc. Club dwellers and street folk cheered all along the way. Counts varied from 8,000 to 13,000 but we suspect under 8,000. No major injuries or mishaps occurred on the ride.

Also a body paint area will be set up. Roughly 500 riders left the Pedalpalooza Dance Party at Disjecta (230 East Burnside Street though its moved since then) at 11:59pm for a long looping ride. Many people did multiple loops that night.

2005

The 2005 ride and post-ride party maxed out the generous location donated by Free Geek. We had about 170 riders.

2004

In 2004 the organization City Repair hosted the event and had a healthy turnout.
