Montpelier, Vermont!

Description

FUTURE

next ride

Date: Saturday, June 7, 2008
Time: Meet at 1:00pm, Ride at 2:00pm
Place: Freeride, 89 Barre St, Montpelier

The route is just under 3 miles long and may take about 30 minutes to ride. The terrain covers all over downtown, is almost 100% flat, and is appropriate for any level of rider & any kind of bike (including one speeds).

PRESENT

the most up-to-date-info about the 2008 ride

03-11-08: Just received word that our WNBR coincides with Fashion Week, which itself mandates a street closure downtown. Of course we can ride around Fashion Week, but would rather ride through it. What a transformative experience this could be: Celebrating beautiful clothed bodies AND celebrating beautiful naked bodies!
03-10-08: 10 confirmed riders to date, including our first participant signed up via email who is completely unknown to us. That's already over three times our force last year...and it's early yet. Keep spreading the word. We're on our way!
03-05-08: Our Web site MontpelierNakedBikeRide.org goes live!
02-29-08: We meet with Sgt. Martel of Montpelier PD to disclose route and event details to the jurisdiction. We are asked to fill out a parade application--although the ride is not a parade--which is still pending. We get verbal confirmation that the police will not enforce the old bike licensing law still on the books in Montpelier. The sergeant also says that he will speak to Burlington PD to see how they handle their WNBR. This is great news because Burlington does such a nice job of things, with everybody having a safe ride, & the whole jurisdiction behind it.
02-06-08: Freeride bicycle co-op agrees to be the start & end point of the ride, providing our indoor disrobing & rerobing space. The decision of the steering committee is unanimous, and the mechanics will be riding themselves!

PAST

2007

The 2007 ride started spontaneously in Montpelier, when three riders from Central Vermont arrived too late to participate in the Burlington WNBR. Snatching victory from the jaws of defeat, they returned home and kicked off the inaugural WNBR-Montpelier. Reaction was almost 100% positive (with only one passerby shielding her child's eyes). Cell phones snapped photos and were used to dial 9-1-1. When police caught up to riders they were friendly and just wanted to make sure everything was OK. THANKS, guys!
