This page has information about the third year of London's participation in the World Naked Bike Ride. In 2004, there were 58 riders in Hyde Park, and in 2005 there were 250 riders in the central London streets. This year the ride returns to the streets of London (on a similar route to 2005) allowing riders to see the many sights of this remarkable city from the comfort of their own bikes/skates.

The London ride will meet at 3pm in central London on 10 June 2006. This will allow people to also take part in the Brighton & Hove morning ride, which will start at around 10am.

The World Naked Bike Ride is a global protest movement with rides in cities around the world, raising awareness of issues such as safety of cyclists on the road, reducing oil dependence and saving the planet. Let's make the planet great again!

Be sure to check back here before the ride for any changes/amendments to the ride start time/location. If you don't find all the info you need below, please visit the UK FAQs page.
+
WNBR’s themes are to:
 +
* protest against the global dependency on oil
 +
* curb car culture
 +
* obtain real rights for cyclists
 +
* demonstrate the vulnerability of cyclists on city streets
 +
* celebrate body freedom

Route
+
As well as promoting healthy life choices it can also be the best fun you can ever have on two wheels. The London ride has the excitement of a carnival, with big crowds to cheer it on. It is a "naked bike ride" but you can be "as bare as you dare" - body painting and fancy dress are welcome. It is fun, legal and all in a worthy cause.
Route: http://www.worldnakedbikeride.org/uk/london/route

The route starts at Wellington Arch, then takes in Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, Embankment, Big Ben, Aquarium/London Eye, IMAX cinema roundabout, Covent Garden, Leicester Square, Centre Point/Tottenham Court Road Tube, Oxford Street, Oxford Circus, Selfridges, US Embassy, Park Lane, and finish at the Wellington Arch.

Or find out more about the global World Naked Bike Ride goals on the wiki.
We have notified the police of our intention to ride in protest of oil dependency and in celebration of our bodies. They are fully aware that many/most of our riders will be nude and partially nude as we cycle a route through the streets of central London. In 2005 they police indicated that they would not be arresting us or trying to prevent the protest ride. We plan to seek this acknowledgement again when we agreed our route with the police beforehand. Visit our FAQ answer about what the Metropolitan police said in 2005. The chances that you will be arrested for nudity or participation in the 2005 ride were virtually zero. We will try to ensure that the 2006 ride is the same.

Weather
+
Are you thinking about taking part in the London World Naked Bike Ride?<br/>
We've had good weather at each of the UK rides so far. Does that mean statistically we're predicting rain? RAIN IS NOT PREDICTED, BUT.. the ride will not be cancelled in the event of rain. If it rains, bring some warm dry clothes to change into after the ride, and keep them dry. Maybe we can beat the Vancouver record for most naked rides in the rain!  For a weather forecast, visit the Met Office, MetCheck or BBC Weather.

Getting involved
Are there any discounts available to riders? We are hoping to get some discounts arranged.

Help to promote and organise the ride
+
We hold monthly planning meetings before the ride: anyone is welcome to come along, and we reach decisions by consensus. We also rely on people to volunteer on the day, either as marshals, stewards, or first aiders. The more people we have to help out, the smoother the ride is for everyone. If you can help, please let us know!<br/>

Everyone can help to make the 2006 ride even more successful than 2005. There are lots of ideas for promoting the ride at the UK Promote! page. In particular, there is a new leaflet that you can print out at home/work and distribute locally.  Download the leaflet as a 200KB colour PDF.  We should soon have a single leaflet printed for distribution.

Planning meetings
+
Ride details - Saturday, 8th June 2024
The London ride intends to organise in an autonomous, decentralised, and self-organising manner. Anyone who is prepared to contribute to planning in this way is welcome to attend the meetings. The meeting agenda can include route/time, negotiations with police, improving the experience for new riders, presswork, and any other matters that people bring to the meeting. Meetings are open to non-London riders who wish to plan rides in their area. If any non-London riders attend, their rides can be discussed. Press are not welcome to the planning meeting.
+
<br />The traditional date for the ride is the second Saturday in June, so join us on Saturday 8th June 2024.

Four planning meetings were scheduled for the 2006 London ride, two of which have already taken place. The remaining meetings will take place on:
+
The ride has been increasingly popular over the past 20 years, with its fun, attention-grabbing campaign for safer cycling along with healthier environment, lifestyles and behaviours. 2022 was another big ride, with 8 start groups merging into a spectacular rider peloton. Our clicker count was 1,003 riders - but we probably missed a lot of you.

It's Not the World Naked Bike Ride

We will meet in the Great Court on the Main Floor of the British Museum (map and floor plans) at the large cafe tables nearest the Enlightenment Gallery (on the east side, formerly known as the King's Library). We'll have WNBR things out, so it will be easy to spot the meeting. You can distribute leaflets for the planning meetings.
+
We are riding in August as we cannot ride in June, but we marked the original date of 12th June by again campaigning safely with activities that are “Not the World Naked Bike Ride”. Look out on social media for the tag #NotTheWorldNakedBikeRide.

Interviews
+
The next London ride will be on the afternoon of Saturday 14th August 2021. In 2019 we had a great day with over 1,000 riders and huge crowds cheering us on. Media participation and coverage was also good. Let's make it bigger and better this year! -->
The press, radio and TV are fascinated by WNBR. We need riders to explain their personal perspective on the ride in interviews. If you are willing to help out with interviews, please contact uk [at] worldnakedride.org or glee194584 [at] aol.com.
+
<!-- The date coincides with the Trooping of the Colour in the morning, so there should be good crowds to cheer us on and maybe our riders will once again sing Happy Birthday to the Queen.

We need people to pass out leaflets at the assembly point and during the ride. If you plan to pass out leaflets on the ride, you need to have a good scheme for carrying the leaflets, so they don't spill out or blow away, but so you still can reach them to pass out. We're going to try to pass out leaflets to the crowd at the assembly point and then during the ride.

Photography and filming policy
The London Ride has had the following photography/filming policy since 2005.

Policy
We welcome photography during the ride, but there are some restrictions.

*No photos are permitted BEFORE or AFTER the street ride EXCEPT in a designated photo area (where consenting riders can go to be photographed).

*During the street ride, no closeup photos of people are allowed without the person's consent.

*During the street ride, no photos of participants when they aren't riding/skating (except with the person's consent).

*Riders and supporters are actively encouraged to enforce these policies. Thank you!

This policy is intended to curtail any inconsiderate photography which might otherwise take place. We wish to create a safe and supportive environment for all riders.

All photographers present at the ride must abide by this policy. Those who do not will be asked to leave. This includes any riders or press who take photos.

To ensure that this policy is clear to all present, it may appear on signs at the ride assembly area or on leaflets distributed at the event.

If you are attending the ride as a photographer, we would like to remind you that the there are various points along the route which feature particularly striking backgrounds for photos of the ride (eg- Piccadilly, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, Houses of Parliament, Westminster Bridge, Waterloo Bridge, Oxford Street, US Embassy).

There has been some debate about the restrictiveness of this policy, to see this visit the following link

London World Naked Bike Ride

1,000 riders on London Naked Bike Ride 2007 - photo by mini_mouse@riseup.net

The World Naked Bike Ride is a global protest movement with rides in cities around the world, raising awareness of issues such as safety of cyclists on the road, reducing oil dependence and saving the planet. Let's make the planet great again!

WNBR’s themes are to:

 • protest against the global dependency on oil
 • curb car culture
 • obtain real rights for cyclists
 • demonstrate the vulnerability of cyclists on city streets
 • celebrate body freedom

As well as promoting healthy life choices it can also be the best fun you can ever have on two wheels. The London ride has the excitement of a carnival, with big crowds to cheer it on. It is a "naked bike ride" but you can be "as bare as you dare" - body painting and fancy dress are welcome. It is fun, legal and all in a worthy cause.

Getting involved

We hold monthly planning meetings before the ride: anyone is welcome to come along, and we reach decisions by consensus. We also rely on people to volunteer on the day, either as marshals, stewards, or first aiders. The more people we have to help out, the smoother the ride is for everyone. If you can help, please let us know!

Ride details - Saturday, 8th June 2024

The traditional date for the ride is the second Saturday in June, so join us on Saturday 8th June 2024.

Support Us

The ride is made possible by volunteer helpers and generous donations from our participants. Please join the collective. No one is paid for running WNBR London, but we do have some significant expenses like radio comms hire, road closure fees, insurance, printing, marshals' ID, etc.
