Ride details

I have emailed the mayor and encourage you to email her too: Kitty Peircy. google her and email her saying you support the world naked bike ride and everything it stands for. Encourage her to allow this ride to be recognized as a city parade. I want to make it right, I want to be able to use a park to set up without having to pay hundreds of dollars. I want people to be safe- I want it to be a parade!

If she doesn't listen to what I say, and quite honestly what politician would listen to an Appleseed Bike, then we will do what we did last time,

start at Monroe Park, ride nearly the same route as last time with a few rules:

Stop at red lights NO matter WHAT.

wear a helmet

have a bike light

use hand signals

stick together as best we can, when at a stop sign we move as a group.

and only take up one traffic lane - or the tazers come out, I'm not joking.

come on, lets celebrate people! it is about our love of bikes, our positive body image, independence from foreign oils. and most of all, it is about being ridiculous, shaking things up, bringing that cosmic wonder back into our eyes opening our hearts, and screaming from the bottom of our lungs: Less Gas, More ASS!!!!!

Civil Liberties Defense Center is a good place to go to seek legal assistance, volunteer, donate money.

If you get cited by a police officer and you feel you didn't commit the crime they sighted you for, please contact the cldc

In Portland, nude biking is protected as a freedom of speech, a judge ruled it.

We should send him cookies.

And please friend "appleseed bike" on facebook to stay updated!!

Old: New School Term, new ride! there should be a critical tits if people volunteer to distribute flyers! and then a world naked bike ride after that! I am still quite afraid of tasers, but let's overly exercise traffic safety to rub their noses in it. Hand signals! helmets! stop sign foot tap! bike lights! And only taking up one lane.

And because I want to do it in the daylight, and make it a BIG event, I am going to try to alert the police. However, I will not be telling them an accurate time/date/location unless they give me an okay to go.

Email appleseedbike@hotmail.com if you are interested in volunteering. Pretty much the only thing I'm really desperate for is people putting up flyers and being body painters.

Last time, on Less Gas, More Ass...

Let's build on what learned from the March 9th 2008 ride and do it again only better in June. The police said they wouldn't have interfered if #1 they'd known about it in advance and #2 the riders had obeyed traffic laws. I suggest we make these two changes and then they won't have any excuse to be mad at us, unless they just hate seeing people have fun. I have searched Oregon state law online and can't find any law which makes public nudity illegal unless it's advertising for a commercial venture. - tiedyeguy@hotmail.com

I hate to be a buggar, but the only problem we had with the last ride was that a small few individuals took it upon themselves to get cocky with over 100 of us behind them, and decided to run out in front of cars and red lights and not stop at stop signs. We didn't alert the police force because the Eugene police attitudes do not reflect Eugene and are very against nudity in general. We didn't want to be stopped before we could get started, so they were intentionally not informed.

I would like to add that we still respect everyone on the road, so this time, obey traffic laws, however - we ride as one vehicle. and I will make sure there is a route and leaders who know the rules. -- Appleseed

Next ride: Halloween. Oct. 31st

Media coverage

Note: the following text was omitted from the KTVZ, KOIN, and WCSH coverage, but was included in the KCBY coverage:

Portland has been host to such rides for several years. Last year's event drew more than 1,000 participants.

"It's just fun and it caught on as a novel thing to do," said Jonathan Maus, editor of bikeportland.org. "It's a sign of a good healthy bike culture."

History

2008

Our March 2008 ride was terrifying to say the least, yet still very fun and liberating.

...Then June 7th came along and This time around it was all fun! We celebrated bike safety, helmets, lights, laughs, smiles, and bare fun. There were 100+ of us again. We stayed in one lane, we stopped at every red light, and every 4 way cross stop we moved as one vehicle. There were cheers, and costumes and lights.

Dare to bare

Less gas more ass!

The cops came, saw and left, realizing that tasering another innocent this close to last week would be detrimental to their credentials and we didn't give them a reason to taser us.

Thank you so much to everyone who came out - maybe another this August? Let's make it happen!

2006

Planning notes were posted to this page for a proposed ride in 2006. It is not known if the ride went ahead. Notes follow:
