Legality

Unlike the rest of the UK where public nudity is 'legal-ish' in this kind of context, in Scotland the laws are enforced to the maximum extent allowed by the law itself. At the time of writing, Stephen Gough (the naked rambler) is in prison on a charge of 'Breach of the Peace'. Stephen is the extreme example, but the unfortunate fact is that anyone turning up completely nude will be risking arrest.

(for anyone interested in the minutiae:

It is perfectly legal to be naked in a public place if there is no-one else there. It is also fine if there is another person there and they don't mind. If they DO mind, they can complain about you to the nearest policeman, and you will be duely charged with "Outraging Public Decency". HOWEVER... where it gets interesting is that a Judge has now ruled that since PC Plod is a member of the public, he can complain to himself as it were, and haul you off without needing an actual complaint.

So...yeah)

Decoration

The police will arrest anyone totally starkers for breach of the peace. What's the point? i hear you say, well we can still have fun, get painted up, put a sock on your cock, tassels on your nipples and show that there is nothing wrong with nudity, but by forcing us to cover up, we are only highlighting our fun *private parts*. Be as inventive as you can be, cover up in the smallest possible way, or totally exxxxagerate what you already have.

It is a completely ridiculous stance by the police (not law, just the stance of the LBP), and the only one of it's kind in the UK. Another step forward in the right to express ourselves eh chaps?

Photography

Edinburgh prefers riders rather than photographers. Rider-photographers are OK but we will probably be using the London photography policy unless posted otherwise. That means if your photography behaviour is unwelcome, you'll be required to leave.

Directions

Middle Meadow Walk is a long tree lined avenue through the Meadows Park. At the north end of the Walk is Teviot Place and at the south end is Argyle Place. Here is a link to the map and here is a map of the Meadows. Here is an excellent photograph that shows what Middle Meadows Walk looks like.
