We are Cycling as Bare as We Dare for the Third Time in Cape Town

The World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) is an event that happens worldwide. Since 2004, cities across the world have experienced the joy of the world's largest naked event that seeks to create environmental awareness through clean initiative such as cycling. We would like Cape Town to join in this awareness campaign.

Come AS BARE AS YOU DARE

The event is a peaceful, imaginative and fun protest against oil dependency and car culture. It is a celebration of the bicycle and also a celebration of the power and individuality of the human body. Furthermore, it is symbolic of the vulnerability of cyclists in traffic and the Naked Bike Ride Team wish to create awareness of this fact. Additionally, this cycle ride will mean Cape Town is part of the world's biggest naked protest: 50+ cities and thousands of riders participate worldwide.

***Riding to MAKE CYCLING SAFER***

This naked cycle underpins massive global issues. It is seen as a necessity in co-creating a sustainable earth to live in and a cycling culture, which addresses Cape Town's heavy reliance on cars. The Naked Bike Ride Team and approximately 200 other cyclists would like to share bare knowledge about the vulnerability of cyclist on Cape Town’s roads, stressing the need for drivers to recognise and respect people on bicycles.
+
The ride will start at 10am, so please get to the start point a little bit earlier so you can get yourself ready and don't get left behind!

Furthermore, Cape Town suffers from an embarrassingly high per capita carbon foot print. This initiative to reduce pollution is a central purpose in holding the first ever naked cycle ride in Cape Town. Other more permanent ways we can address this fact is by calling for more bicycle lanes in Cape Town and by asking Metrorail to allow bikes on the train!
+
Clothing is optional: The dress code for the World Naked Bike Ride is "Bare As You Dare"! YOU get to decide how naked you wish to be. If that means completely naked, or completely clothed, the decision is yours...

The idea is to engage the public and make a statement! We paint our bodies and decorate our bikes with messages of protest or beautiful designs to complement our varied forms. Some useful slogans amongst others are:

*Curb Car Culture!

*No mess, No Fuss!

*Care for the Environment, Love your Body!

This as a poignant assertion that it is time to put a stop to the indecent exposure of people and the planet to cars and the pollution they create.

This ride is not about nudity - it's about joining in a world wide campaign/protest for the environment: we ride to raise awareness about the vulnerability of cyclists on the road and to MAKE CYCLING SAFER!

The World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) is an annual demonstration that draws attention to the absurdity of oil and gas dependency and celebrates the potential of cycling and the human body. The overuse of the planet's vanishing oil reserves causes pollution, global warming and leads to war, inequality and injustice. Many politicians want to subsidise the car industry and build more runways. They call such follies progress but this is progress towards disaster.

WNBR is an international movement, with rides taking place in many locations around the world. Riding naked emphasises the vulnerability of cyclists on the road, at the same time as celebrating humanity in the face of mechanisation. If it seems a little crazy, think about the total madness of car culture and its inevitable results.

If you're worried about going nude on the day don't panic as it's fully clothing-optional bare as you dare, Full & partial nudity is encouraged, but not mandatory & if the route is too long for you, you can pull out at anytime.

Public nudity is officially against the law in South Africa; the organisers of the CT-WNBR do not take responsibility for anyone's actions. It is up to each individual to make an informed decision on what position they want to take.
